Tail Light LED's?

Recommended Posts

Looking for feedback from anyone who has purchased or seen the LED tail lights upgrade? I have seen them on ebay in a chrome housing or in red. I think both look pretty cool and would love to see an 'installed' picture.

Anyone got em? or have seen them that could throw two cents in?

thanks!

I have the smoked version of those LED tails; style-wise, they're okay IMHO. I got them because I got a killer deal on them, plus I wanted LED tails that could light up faster than filament bulb tails (confirmed via A-B-testing on my truck; the difference is negligible but noticeable) The clear lens/chrome background combo may be a bit ricey for some folks; and unless the maker of those tails have changed the design, IIRC the red ones are really clear lenses w/ the chrome backing being red in color--IOW the red one does not utilize a red lens. You may find that you may need to resolder the LED bulb connections; I have personally found that the solder job on these units leaves a bit to be desired...having found this out after noticing that a few LEDs not lighting up. If you do decide to get the Eurostar LED tails, make sure they come with the adapters so that your cruise control will still work; the factory GM cruise control on our NBS trucks/SUVs works in part by detecting resistance from the filament taillight bulb. The LEDs in the Eurostars apparently don't put out enough resistance for the CC to detect; hence the addtion of adapters (essentially, a module containing a resistor or two) to correct this deficiency. I was one of the first folks (if not the first--when I mentioned this to the distributor, they claimed that it was the first time they had even heard of the problem) who discovered the CC issue...hence my somewhat-detailed knowledge on this matter.

toneman,

Thanks for the response and info. I appreciate it! Do you have any installed pictures? Also, how do the parking lights and brake lights work with the three rows of LED's. I think I read that they are dual stage LED's does that mean they have the 'double-filament' style of the old bulbs or does one line of the LED's light up for parking and another set for turnsignal/brake?

Thanks again!

great info!
