Discount Tire

after lunch today, I notice a low right front on the 2005 Silverado.

I was just going to air it up and later look for a nail or something.

Discount Tire was across from the resturaunt so I pulled up to the bay and asked for some shop air.

They came out and aired up the tire. Me and my bud, cut the wheel to the right and rolled it back and found a shiny nail head exposed, then saw a pretty bad rock cut on the tread. I have no idea where that happend.

I told them to pull off the spare( the truck only has 3500 miles) and stick it on the right front and fix the nail hole and put that up as the spare.

I was expecting to pay around $20.

We went inside to make a ticket and I was in the computer as a previous customer from buying tires a while back.

They handed me a ticket with a zero balance. They were going to do it for free!

Now here is the wild part.

They had to break the tires down and switch the wheels, cause the spare is a steel wheel.

Replaced both valve stems, which I tryed to talk them out of.

Fixed the nail hole in the old right front tire.

Rebalanced both after remounting.

Washed the spare which was now on the right front, it was caked with red dirt and they washed it and put tire dressing to match the other three.

You can bet where I will be buying new tires next time!

You just don't see service like that anymore.

In fact when I took the Suburban to Colorado in Sept, I had just had the tires rotated and balanced from where I bought them at Sam's Club.

They messed up on rebalancing one of them by two ounces and I had to put up with it for 700 miles, till we got to Durango.

No Sam's Club, but a Super Wal-Mart. I asked them to check the balance of both fronts and find what had went wrong, under warranty.

They said "no" they are not allowed to do that for Sam's customers.

They need a dose of Discount Tire!

Thats great service. I guess the discount tire that opened by me (where i used to live) didnt learn the customer service part. I had printed out a quote online and took it in. They wanted to charge me $25 more a tire PLUS SHIPPING. Who pays shipping at a tire place? Left and went to tirerack and paid about $200 less and they sorta scratched my rims but thats another story in itself and it involves the BBB. I havent found a tire store that has given me good service yet. Maybe when the time comes ill try discount again

It is tough to find a good tire shop. I'm guessing/believing that a lot of them know you're not going to be back for a few years(unless you own mutliple vehicles that you'd take there), and any other services(rotations, etc) often are tossed in free, so they may not be making much more than the original sale. So many of them now are giant chains as well, and open and close quickly.

I have always had good business with the Discount tire stores here in the southwest. I have gotten all of my tires from them, and probably will continue to as long as I live here in the desert...

Discount Tire in Huntsville, TX, has also been a champion in customer service. Just that they don't sell Bridgestones!

You guys should drive down here for your next tire purchase then. Discount Tire rules the roost in customer support around here (I've bought my last 3 sets of tires from them) as well...But every place is pretty dang good. Except Sears, those guys wouldn't budge on prices, which is strange for Sears. They also wanted $140 for battery for my ATV, but that's another story.

Discount has never charged me for balancing, rebalancing, rotating, flat fixes, or much of anything other than tires...And they break their backs to price match anybody out there, including TireRack.com...The guy even pulled up their prices for me the other day to see if he could sell me another set of Bridgestones for less $$. :dupe:

Well one thing it has taught me is that I will never buy another set of tires from Sams Club.

They were a little cheaper than Discount when I priced my Long Trail TA's 2 years ago, so I went with them, but price is not everything. On vacation, when I needed service for the poor balance job they had done before we left, I was SOL.

When I got back in town, I took my receipt back from a Big O's in Pagosa Springs where I had the balance problem fixed and they did give my the $15 back, but it seems to me that in the Sams Club here there are nothing but a bunch of slugs who could not get a job elsewhere. They are so unprofessional.

I later found out that the tire guys at the Super Walmart in Durango was supposed to have rebalance my tires when I showed them the Sams receipt, they just lied about it because they wanted to go home for the day...

Buy laundry soap at Walmart and Sams....not tires..

Bought some new BFG Rugged Trail tires from Discount Tire a few weeks ago. They ordered the 10-ply tires when I wanted the 4-ply (maybe 6, can't remember exactly) but when the guy realized what had happened, he knocked off about $20 from each tired ($80 total) plus gave me the replacement thing they offer (also about $20) for free.

That same day, I drove 700 miles on the tires and they were sooooo much quieter and seemed to have a much smoother ride than the BFG AT's. I haven't had a chance to test them in the snow yet (hasn't snowed in Boulder, just everywhere else in Colorado) but as soon as I do, I will let you know how they compare to the ATs.

Also, I have also bought tires before from Costco (just like Sams) and they were a little cheaper than Discount, but the warranty they offer sucks compared to Discount. What they will do is pro-rate a new tire they sell to you when you blow a tire. They measure the treat and figure out a price from there. That is the last time I will buy tires there. Now the only thing I buy there that is automotive related is the Chevron fuel systems cleaner 4-pack and the car washing kit (love it)!

Dittos and kudos to Discount Tires. When I buy a new set, I'm definitely going to give them my business. I, too, picked up a nail in my tread so since I was right next to the local Stuff Mart when I noticed it, I decided to drop in and pay them $10 to remove it and patch the tire. I walked up to the service desk and there was no one around. I waited for about 5 minutes when someone finally came out of the back room and stood there looking right at me. I inquired as to the time it would take to get to my truck and the lady shrugged her shoulders and said, "I dunno." That's when I left all my other crap I was going to buy right on the counter and walked out the door. I called the Discount Tire up the street from my house and they said they'd get me in as soon as I got there. 15 minutes later, they had my truck ready and didn't charge me a cent! They're the tops in customer service!

It really doenst matter whats on the sign outside-> Sears, Discount, whoever. What matters is the people who work there. If you find a good store go back and reward the good cutomer service.

Plainvanilla,

You should get the manager's name and send him a thank you, plus write the company and tell them what he/she did for you and commend him to the company.

Maybe they'll encourage similar behaviour at their other stores.

Well, I'm officially retarded. I've never set foot in a Discount Tire in this state. I had an industrial sized staple in a tire, and took it in to have it repaired yesterday.

It's a Hibdon Tires Plus that I've been going to all these years.

No idea where I got Discount Tire...Other than that's probably where I bought tires in California or Colorado when I lived there.
