Starter Problem

It seems that the starter in the truck is going bad. Took it a shop that specializes in electric work on vehicles, they performed all the tests and although everything tested good (battery, alternator and starter) they noticed that the starter was having a hell of a time turning. They recommended replacing it before it fails.

(Dealer said it was the battery which was brand new).

My 2000 Z71 has 150K miles, what is the life expectancy of a starter? The rebuilding cost of the old starter is a lot cheaper than the cost of a new GM one.

Are those rebuilt starters reliable or will I have problems in the near future?

My options are:

1. Getting the old one rebuilt. Cost is $70

2. Buy a reman one from Advance, Autozone or NAPA (lifetime warranty). Cost is $200 plus my old core.

3. Buy a brand new GM one for almost $300

What have you guys done when faced with this dilemma?

Thanks!

i have a 98 dodge 1500 and my starter is goin bad too. but when i turn the key, it doesnt even try to turn over, it just makes a click. im not sure what it is, whether its a bad solanoid or a ring on top of the starter. i know its a dodge and not a gm product, but since its a starter, i didnt know if u could figure it out or not.

Starter went out on my old truck (95 Sonoma). Went down to the local parts store (Thuls - this is in NJ), bought a remanufactured starter. Cost me $100+, and the core fee. Starter worked like a champ after that.

I'm in Georgia and all the auto part stores are charging me almost $200 for a rema starter.

My big question is how reliable are they in the long run. I know they have a lifetime warranty, but I don't want to be changing it every six months for the rest of my life.

I'm in GA and you must be going to the wrong places... I have had my Autozone starter on for almost 3 years with zero trouble.
