Stabilitrak????? Help!!!

I really hate this stabilitrak system. So long story short, when we got our latest snow fall I was in some snow/ice so I turned off the stabilitrak(just turns off the engine management but still keeps the traction control with the brakes on) and I was stuck because as soon as the traction went, it put the brakes on...But I wanted the wheels to spin more!!! My brother inlaw had no trouble in his silverado my dad had no trouble in his ram and my step mom's beetle even did better! So my question is, is there any way to turn off the traction control and stabilitrak all together for situations where I need the wheels to spin freely an not be overtaken by a computer that thinks it knows what I want it to do?

When i had my '03 i remember something about the TC being disabled when the tranny was in 1st gear.

On my '04 2WD with TC (no stabilitrak), the TC is supposed to be off when 1st gear is selected. Or when I push the little button. Sturte30, did you try the truck in 1st? You might verify in the owners manual that this is the case.

So what was the situation where an additional amount of lost traction would benefit anything? I know that if the treads are clogged with snow or ice wheel spin can clear them, but other than that maintaing traction is of utmost importance.

Yeah I looked in the owners manual and it doesn't say anywhere how to turn off the TC it only says that to turn the Stabilitrak off I am to push the button. But like I said before only the stabilitrak turns off but the TC stays on. I didn't try the 1st gear thing so that my be a posibility. I was hoping there would be a way to turn the whole thing off though in case I need to be in reverse like the other day.

You would want the TC off if you were trying to "rock" your vehicle to free it if stuck. The TC works the brakes if traction is lost and defeats the whole purpose in that scenario. Also sucks if you want to BURN rubber!
