Brake Controller..........Need Help

Recommended Posts

I am trying to install a Teknosha prodigy in my 2001 Chevy 1500 silverado. I purchased the cable from Teknosha, and plugged it into the box under the parking brake pedal, but it does not work. What do I need to do? Thanks

In my 2003, I have the same setup - a Prodigy with the plug and play cable.

There is a wiring difference between 1999-2002 and 2003+ Silverados. Is the harness that you have for 2001 model year trucks?

There is a 40 amp fuse that goes in the

fuse box next to your battery under the hood.

I have put the 40 amp fuse in and it still will not work. I think I have the right cable, but who knows? The dealer said it was correct.

The trailer is new, and it works fine with my Superduty hooked up to it. The brake controller will not even light up. I probed the plug with a test ligh and I can only get power if the headlights are on, but the power is at the wrong terminal. Anyone have a diagram of the 01 plug compared to the 03 plug? I think I may have the wrong one.

I had a 2003 work truck. I purchased the GM trailer brake harness when I wired up my controller and it too did not work. I took apart the junction box where the harness was plugged into, and found that most of the wiring was just plain not there. The blue wire that went to the back of the truck was there, if I remember right, and the brake light signal was there, but the wiring to the fuse box under the hood was not there.

On my '03, in addition to adding the 40amp fuse I had to remove the under-hood fuse center's cover and connect the red wires to the corresponding studs and I also had to connect the two blue wires together. You might check to see if there are some loose red and blue pigtails under the fuse center cover.

I briefly looked at the under the hood fuse area near the battery (as described above) and was unsure where the 40 amp fuse goes.....any suggestions?

I too hooked up my Prodigy with the Tek harness for an 03 GMC and the Prodidgy is dead. I am assuming it's the lack of 40 amp fuse and/or maybe I need to check the wiring as noted above and in other posts???

When I hooked mine it worked right off the bat.

I also had to put in the 40 amp fuse so that it would charge the battery on my trailer.

I think there is a wiring diagram on the prodigy web site that tells you where the wires on the plug to the box under the dash should be located.

I think the plug is the same, just two wires change position in order for it to work on the older trucks.

I maybe wrong, but that is what I remember.

Hope this helps.

On Edit: use this link to find out if the wires are right for the year truck you have.

there is a difference between the 01-02 and the 03. if you have a wireing harness for a 03 there is one wire thet needs to be changed. even if you ordered a harness for the 01 you may have been sent one for 03-04. check the paper work that came with the controller should explain what to do . when i got mine for my 03 i had to change one wire for it to work....

good luck

I have a diagram for the 2006 relay block on my website. It will be good for 03-06. Not sure if that will help you but it sounds like you have the wrong harness.

I still have to add a step in the page for the addition of the fuse.

my prodigy install

Here are the changes in the harness

The fuse is only needed to power the center pin which is mostly used for charging the battery.

Campertime,

Thanks for the help. I will pull the harness and reroute the wires as per the Tek bulletin you provided. I will also install the 40 amp fuse to keep the battery charged, just not sure where...although I only looked briefly.

I'll go snap a pic of my fuse block and highlight the fuse :seeya:
