Hi Folks,

Couple of questions....has anyone taken out the GM extended warranty to cover beyond the 60,000mark? How much more coverage can you get? What is the cost? And is it worth it? What mileage can you get it up too?

Thanks

I added warranty on my truck when I bought it. 6 years/90K miles. (Just my .02, but stay away from aftermarket warranty companies; go with the GM Protection Plan.... like you said above)

You might want to take a look Black Pontiac's website for extended warranty. I priced them and they were by far and away less than anyone on GMPP; my dealer agreed to price match though. It doesn't matter where you buy the GM Protection Plan from.... any GM dealer will work. Also the site I gave above will allow you to get a price without having to speak to anyone, so that would be a ballpark figure. Good luck

adding an extra 60000KM and an extra 3 years is about 1900 bucks for the gm total plus package which covers almost everything. its not hard to get to have this pay for itself,

thanks for the info. I will check it out soon. I was actually at the dealer this morning bitching about my rusted bumpers. They are going to pull them off and do the expoxy thing and hope it works out...I kinda doubt it. I also found out that my Chev bowtie in front is looking like crap from inside the plastic...appears to be bubbling...they say they will fix that. My appt is on Feb 7 so will let you know how it goes....not very impressed as you can now see why the extended warranty may be a good investment.

I too was quoted about 1900 bucks for the extended warranty back on the day I picked the truck up but I declined. My warranty is now up and I had a couple of bulletins performed just before that and some rust on my hood latch repaired after the warranty had expired. My dealer offers good service - they even threw in a free engine shampoo and a rental car for me - I was expceting to have to pay since I was a couple of thousand clicks over 60000. Also my small bowtie on the left side of the tailgate fell of a couple of weeks ago as I was washing it - nothing a little crazy glue won't fix. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I have no problems now that the warranty is up. Overall I am happy with the truck.

PS check your hood latches...my buddies 04 Avalanche had similar rust. the mechanic told me it is a common problem.

When I bought my truck, they offered me an extended warranty up to 7 years/75k miles, but the cost was rather steep, about $ 1800. I declined it, because it does not take effect until the factory warranty expires and I can always buy extended warranty if I choose before the factory warranty expires. Also, this warranty was not through GM, but some independent company, so I did not like it. Looked like the dealer was in bed with this company, selling people their extended warranties.

With shop labor rates well over $100/hr I'd make sure I have as much extended warranty as possible. All it takes is to even replace the cd player and you got an $1100 parts bill, not to mention the labor. Given GM's build quality and outstanding issues it doesn't take much to pay for itself.

One thing I received (besides a fixed truck) thru the BBB lemon law in MI was an extended 0 deductible 100k warranty ( well GM calls it a service contract as the warranty only goes to 36k...thank you lawyers for clearing that up for me)

I used to buy them until this truck..... I have had the truck for nearly a year and I am at 31k. So I will be making use of the service contract as needed. And considering how many times this truck has been in the shop, I'll get my use out of it!!!!

Here is what I found out....and thanks for all the replies: To extend warranty to 100,000km and 60 months will cost $2300.00 Cdn. This warranty starts from date of service which means the day the truck was on the road. I still have approx 15,000km to go before I have to decide as it must be purchased before 60thousand clicks.

Its pricey but like everyone says its cheap insurance. And the way things have been going with my truck it may be a good investment.

Its too bad this warranty does not cover sheet metal or body.

TOPO.............Is that for a GMPP warranty thru Black ?

Remember you DON"T have to get the warranty NOW!

You can purchase a GMPP ex-warranty anytime up untill the 3/36

expires. The price does increase tho.......................

GMPP has 3 price structures.....1. 0 miles thru 12k miles, 2. 12k miles

thru 24k miles, 3. 24k miles thru 36k miles.................

The warranty sales guy at Black told me my warranty would START

from the day and mileage I purchased at 35k miles...................

It may work different on a spankin' new truck tho OR I understood

his info. incorrectly...............geo
