More power for a 5.7 TBI

I have a 94 2500 4wheel drive Sierra 3/4 ton pick up with almost 200,000 miles on it. I just rebulit the 5 speed manual transmission and transfer case. I want to up grade the motor with more power.

I don't want to get into the problems of swaping up to a big block. The emphisis needs to be increasing the low and midrange powerband as I haul a camper and pull a boat. A wild cam will push the powerband too high to be of use. What are some good options? A stroker 383? A more conservative cam, head, and header setup? Super or turbo charging? If anyone has experience getting more low and midrange pop out of a 5.7 TBI I would like to hear from you.

Thanks :banghead:

Yes. You can buy a cam specifically for low-end torque. Heads and headers would be needed if you go this route.

Super or turbo charging?

While most forced induction systems don't start making boost until at least 2000 RPM's, they're a BIG help in towing too. I wouldn't put them on a 200k mile motor though.

Right, I wasn't thinking about changing the current motor with 200,00 miles on it. It is the rebuild or new crate motor that would get the upgrades.

Thanks
