Engine Break-in and Oil.

I have an Intimidator SS and it has 1800 miles on it. It has the 6.0L vortec max motor. How many miles until the motor is "broken in." Also should I change the engine oil early since the motor is new? I understand that chevy has the oil life monitor, but since it is a new engine does it matter? I was also told that I could not use synthetic motor oil until at least 12,000 miles, is that true? If so which oil would be best for the beast in the meantime? Thanks for the help.

You can put Mobil 1 in any time. GM factory fills Corvette with it. I run my personal and my 3 work trucks with Mobil 1 and change when the OLM tells me to. One of my business trucks has over 100000 mi and no a hint of problems. Mobil 1 & OLM thats factory set for regular oil gives you a good cushon on oil changes.

today's motors and filters are light years beyond older ones.

whatever oil you go with, be it synthetic or dino, don't swap back and forth. if you start with a full syn or syn blend. keep unsing it. same thing with regualr oil.

switching back and forth is where some people have gotten into trouble with seals & stuff leaking.

The only switching that won't screw your engine up is if you go from regular oil to a synthetic blend of "high mileage" oil and then stick with that. But I would reccoment the Mobil 1, I used to do Oil and Lube for a living and that is the best wearing of the "cheap" synthetics. I would stay away from Royal Purple or Amsoil or anything like that unless you either have a ton of cash to spend on fluids or you are going to seriously beat on that truck (ie race)
