Techron additive

Ryan, I use the fuel system concentrate in my 99.  The only thing I do with it is pour it in just before filling up.  Works well, no pinging at all.  Tech at the dealer recommended it for cheap preventative treatment.  I was using it before that though:).

Anyone use the following

Did you have to add and then change oil?  Or just add it?  Did ithelp?

Thanks

I always add a bottle a tankful before I change oil.  Just a bit of extra insurance I guess.  Also any deposits that are burned off will be collected in the dirty oil instead of the clean oil if done after an oil change.  I have used it for years and have found it helpful.  I've never had to do extra cleaning of the injectors or intake in any of my vehicles.

I have never used the bottled stuff yet, may have to try it.  Though I religiously use Chevron gas w/ Techron in it so I get some with every single fill up.

The local car genius (has his own radio show, writes articles for Washington Post, and is featured on 2 TV shows) swears by it.  I started doing what carguru does when I first heard it recommended.  Made a difference for me.

SinCity, he also said if you use Chevron gas at every fill up you should not need the additive unless there is a noticable problem.

I have used it over the last 2-3 years, once every 15K miles or so, and it really makes a difference - after 1 tank, the ole green monster seems really peppy.

I think it's cheap insurance.  Wish we had Chevron stations here in SE MI.

A dealer service manager told me that they recommend adding Techron every 30K miles (although they offer to do for ~ $70)!!

Sweet.  I only use Chevron gas, that is all that has ever been in my truck.

Thats my gas, I would push it by a Texaco to get to a Chevron - found out the hard way with my Jeep GC 5.9, ran terrible, two tanks of Chevron and it was like new ;)

I usually fill up with a tank of high octane Cheveron every other tank full.  It already has techron in the gas.

Well, ow does it compare to Valvoline SynTech once a year cleaner(to use in conjunction with their injector clear, regularly) itse fully synthetic I believe.

Also, have any of you used Marvel Mystery Oil? It cleaned up the idle of our 87 BMW 325is, and Made our 92 Olds 88(with 3.8 Camaro exhaust!) spit  3 different colors of smoke for 3 min, before  the exahust was perfectly clear, and my bro used it in his 86 305 silverado, and he cleaned a bunch of stuff out with it(filled an entire apartment complex with smoke), so we know it works. It did absolutely nothing for my Truck, though, I'm guessig it the Texaco 93 Octane. Its supposed to have cleaning agent similar to Chevron's(Texaco is called Clean System 3, for valves, injecors, and fuel system I think).

Have any of used used two or three of these products(marvel Mystery, Valvoline SynTech Fuel System cleaner(once a year), or the Chevron, and how do they compare from your experience?

I run a bottle of Techron through with each oil change.  It seemed to help the pings on the Sierra, but not the sticking throttle.  Only the GM top end cleaner fixed that.

As for MMO, I swear by it for my small engines - tractor, mower, snowblower, and 4-cycle string trimmer.  I think it helps lube the top end.

I run a bottle of Slick 50 Fuel System Formula every 2 to 3 oil changes. It works for me but I think I'm going to try the Techron stuff if I can get my hands on it and see how it works. Has anyone else on this forum used the Slick 50?
