power window

Power window stopped working on the drivers side and just stays at the top and moves about half an inch and makes a grinding noise. I assumed it was the regulator but the passenger side stopped working at the same time, it goes down but won't go up. Is it regulators or is there something else it might be? I just thought it was weird that they both starting acting weird at the same time.

Maybe your alternator is dieing and your windows can't deal with the reduced voltage. Anything else with a motor having trouble? Wipers? Fan?

Nope, everything else is working fine. I thought maybe there was a short in the switch or that there maybe a common problem like that with the windows.

There might be a common ground. Search for ground among the posts in the last 60 days. I think GMTech gave the location of a common ground for the power windows somewhere.

I took the door panel off and found the cable is busted. What parts do I need to fix it easily without replacing everything? Is it something that the dealer or a mechnic could do alot easier?

If you found that the cables are busted your going to need a window regulator you can but just the regulator without the motor at the dealership

If you took the door panels off and the cables are busted you are going to need a window regulator you can buy just the reg.from the dealer and transfer the motor but you have to be careful when taking the plate off the new reg not to let the cable come loose from the reg.because if it does you'll be very upset trying to get it back on

Probably would be better off asking the person selling them on ebay if ya get all ya need for your fix.

The same thing happened on my '02 Silverado, but back then the parts on eBay were more expensive so I just replaced the cable with a bicycle brake cable. I bought the brake cable and a couple crimp ends for $3 from the local bicyle shop. Being a perfectionist I took my time getting the measurements and the ends just right. It might seem like a rig job, but done right you can't tell the difference and it has worked flawlessly for more than 3 years.
