Poor Quality

I own a 2004 silverado ext cab, v-6 with 62000 miles. At about 45000 mi, the fun started. Steering clunking, guages quit working one at a time, driver side power window rolls up as fast as a 73 caprice power window, taillights burn out every few months, ABS quit working. A week ago, my transmission lost all forward gears. Found over 400 technical service bullitens on the truck, 4 of which are transmission related to the actual problem I had right before it quit. The GM rep acknowledged the problems in the bullitens and even said that he was aware of transmissions failing at 50000 mi, and that they might honor fixing it. Now GM is saying that because the truck has 60000 mi on it, they wont pay to fix it. I have had the truck serviced regularly, and this is what I get, a $23000 truck that lasted a whole 62000 miles. What a piece!

Are you kidding KICK ?

I have list twice as long as his on a 04' GMC Sierra.

Don't try to tell someone like me that window regulators, junk steering and tons of other issues have a dam thing to do with electrical.

AND if I hear one more time that all this CRAP is just annoyances...I'm gonna' go off on somebody!

I could go on and on about the JUNK that GM has been putting on the roads thesedays.

Check their track record with cars too.... :banghead:

In all honesty, I have had great luck with my Silverado. I have had a few issues that I feel were due to poor quality, but overall, I am pleased. Now my wifes Impala on the other hand, look out! Window regulator "exploded" the other day. Dealer only part, $250! They use a cheap thin cable instead of the old days scissor type of lifting mechanism. Well, they are generous enough to give you just a bit too much cable and when the window is all the way down, after being spooled up 99% of it's life, it tends to kink and when that kink hits the little plastic spool.......well, it costs $$350 to replace with labor! The overall quality of the Impala is crap and I have driven many imports to compare to.

I hate to say this, but our next car won't be a GM product, simply because of crappy quality and with GM being in trouble, I wonder how many corners they cut on all these new models in an effort to make a profit.

I hope they did well on the new trucks and suv's. Time will tell.

My 04 (with admittedly only 32k on it) has been rock solid except for the steering clunk which is annoying but not dangerous (fixed twice under warranty). I have NO complaints about this truck and would definately recommend it to anyone.

I dont have an 04 to compare too but my 06 silverado has been the most problem free truck i have ever owned. I havent had to take it in once, not a single issue has cropped up. Granted it has only 12k on it but every other truck i have ever owned has been at the dealer getting multiple things fixed in that same timeframe. That dosent mean im going to be problem free in the future but so far im very pleased with my trucks quality overall.

You guys want to see a crappy truck my 2000 GMC takes the cake. In less then two years that thing was at the dealer over 60 times for problems both minor and very major. My favorite was the 4wd that would self engage whenever it felt like it. It trashed 4 front diffs and a transfer case.

Wow! All these problems. I must just be the lucky one I don't seem to be getting near as many of the problems ya'll are. Guess I'm just lucky.

Man, dont get so defensive. Take a Pill and chill.

I've had pretty good luck with GM products over the years, and never had one that was one problem after another.

when you say gages aren't working right, window is slow, tranny lost all 4 gears ( solenoids???) etc.... one gets the feeling that there is a Root cause.

something as simple as a bad ground or poor connection in battery distribution wiring can cause all sorts of problems in electronic devises that on the surface

dont seem related.

that doesn't preclude the possibility that he managed to buy a Lemon, but to make mention of the fact that it could be electrical.

I'm with you. I can't believe all the problems some people report on this board and still say they are "GM men ", "Chevy lovers", etc. If I had that many problems with a vehicle, I would get rid of it and buy another make. Why be a glutton for punishment?

00 Silverado Z71. 91K, Absolutely ZERO problems in 7 years. It's got a few rattles and squeaks, never noticed a steering problem. My uncle has a 96 that has 140K on it, original engine tranny, etc. He's only changed the oil. He did have to fix the "tailight" problem. Turned out to be a corroded fuse.

Sorry you've been having so many problems. My question would be that if you knew GM's so called "track record" why the hell did you buy a GM product?

To be honest if I hear one more person who pisses and moans about GM's quality and says "this is GM's typical crap they put out" I'm going to go off! :bs: IF YOU KNEW, WHY DID YOU BUY IT?

You want to see a POS truck.... go to Toyotanation.com and go to the truck forums for the 05+ Tacoma and read through all of the problems toyota owners are having with the 05 and 06 Tacomas. A lot of loyal toyota owners are pissed off because they feel their new truck is "junk."

Your 06' and 05's have different brake set-up for one.

The 04 disc's are crap...

Dexcool gelling at 32K and dealer won't due anything...

AmeriaJunk tires that can't be rotated because the rears are out of round .030 each...GM won't replace unless they're .040 or worse.

Windows are slow and squeek and groan when wet.

"A" arm bolt fell out at 10K miles...that's right A arm.

Info KICK...I didn't KNOW!

You know what...I don't even have time to list it all !

Have a good un'...
