Bad u-joint again?

Recently my driveline has developed a squeak during acceleration and at low speeds. I'm guessing a u-joint is going bad, it sounds like the rear. The truck only has 54,000 miles and this will be the second u-joint that has been replaced. The first was under warrenty but this won't be. What could be causing these to go bad so often? Also what is the part number for the u-joints and is it a straight foward replacement or are there some tricks I need to know. Do they make greaseable ones?

I just replace mine in my suburban about 3 months ago. They are not hard. And yes there are greaseable ones.

I had a '85 1/2 Ford that had the rear U joint replaced twice in 75,000. Who know's why, I bought and installed the first replacement myself with a HD napa unit. Even had the driveshaft balanced, and it went out again at 75K.

I tried to replace my u joints over the weekend however I was not able to break the bearing caps loose from the driveshaft. I was was using a 12" C-Clamp and a couple of sockets with no luck. I read on another board that they make some U-Joint C-clamps specifically for this job.

What do you guys recommend?

 

BTW- I have a 2003 2500HD Silverado w/60K miles.

I used a 5lbs mallet, an impact socket, and a vise.
