Mileage 8.1L & 6 Speed Allison Trans ?

Any mileage figures from the 8.1L and 6 speed Allsion transmission combination?

 

Considering purchase of a 2500HD with this combination for towing 5th wheel as well as daily driver.

 

Any comments appreciated.

Mileage figures from an 8.1? Little to none. Reminds me of somebody buying a Chevy Cobalt and then asking how much can I tow with it.

You'll probably get 8mpg towing but that's the beauty of the beast is that no matter what you tow and where it will be 8mpg. Other wise expect single digits as normal. You might get up to 12mpg on the highways, maybe even 13 with a tailwind.

 

But babying her around for milage is no fun, and pointless, because she can flat get up and MOVE.

Anybody out there have a manual trans 8.1? I considered buying one but new is kind of out of the budget (and I don't think they offer the six speed for 2007). I think finding a used manual trans 8.1 Silverado or Sierra would be like the proverbial needle in the haystack. I just wondered about mileage and what the driver's opinion is.

 

And yes, I know the Allison is wonderful, I just don't want one.
