I have a 2005 crew cab and a regular sized box looks like it won't fit due to the fenderwell too close. I want to get one that is deep, anyone had one like this on theirs??

Also, my rig is white and I am thinking that I am going to go with a black powder coat instead of aluminum finish, thoughts?? Pics??

Whatever you do, make sure the one you get is big enough for all your crap. I ended up getting one that just barely holds everything. It is one that sits in the bed and goes side to side and is level with the sides of the bed. I do like the fact that I can drive a 4-wheeler up on it if I need to close the tailgate though. I've got the aluminum finish, but the black ones look d@mn good. Whatever you get should fit.

Im pretty sure they make skinnier ones that would fit. I have a normal size one that sits on the rails and i have more room that I know what to do with. I do have the black diamond plate one and on my black truck it looks awesome. I would think one of these would look great on a white truck as well.

I bought one that is low profile because I hate those thick tool boxes that cover half of your back window. I also like the single lid ones. I looked at WeatherGard tool boxes but D@%N they are expensive. I found a black diamond plate one that is low profile at Lowes for under $225. I have had the box for about 4 years and love it! No issues to date with leaking or locking.

Good luck and I think the black box is a good choice!

I originally bought a USW deep box. I ended up selling it and getting a regular size Weatherguard. The reason I got the regular size and selling the deep, is I couldn’t put pipe in the back. With the deep box I couldn’t slide the pipe under the deep box. Now USW makes a nice box, don’t get me wrong, was a nice piece of equipment. But for looks and ease of opening and closing from either side the Weatherguard is much better design in my opinion. Good luck with your decision, Jake.

Dont mean to hijack the thread...but my reply is somewhat relevant...anyone whos running tonneau covers, whether it be soft or hardtop...are you using any special setup for tool/etc storage underneath the cover so stuff isnt rolling around? Id like to go the toolbox route as well, but I want to get a tonneau cover so I have to choose one or the other. I would just like to keep things stored underneath in a somewhat organized fashion.

Thanks. I did see a setup similar to that around where I'm at. I just think it looks kinda dorky  I may just make some kind of smaller compartment type things maybe that'll fasten inside the bed so they dont move around. Gotta save up the pennies yet so that'll give me time to come up with a design. Just thought I'd see what other people are doing. Thanks again

Remember the old addage: "You get what you pay for," or rephrased as, "Good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good."

I've been through them all. Sears, delta, tuffy, off-brands and we've always come back to Weatherguard. They are just made better. The dual side locks are a real plus. The hinges hold up the best.

A secret to make any tool box last longer - the locks and lids always get wacked out. It's because cargo in the bed of the truck is pressing and slamming on the lid. This puts stress on the lock mechanism and hinges until they crap out.

The secret:

Mount a 2" diameter 36-48" SS grabrail (the kind they sell at Homedepot for handicapped people to use in the shower/tub) just below the lid on the cargo side of the box. This will hold the cargo away from the box & lid just enough to save the box. It also provides a convenient tie-down point, a place to tie the dog, or the mother-oink-law.

im thinkin the silver, unless you really want the tool box to stand out, cause a black powder coat definately will be noticed alot

When I bought my truck, it came with a tonneau cover. In working construction and wrenching on cars, I need a place to keep small tools safe and still be able to carry large equipment. In that case, the tonneau cover did not work for me. I went with none other than the WeatherGuard box. I got the largest one they made in aluminum (after looking at their website I noticed they make a slightly larger one in steel). I bought the WeatherGuard box because I hate buying stuff twice, and they are the best in the business. Yeah it cost a lil more (ok a lot more) but the peace of mind of having a lifetime warranty makes it more than worth it, and every tool I put inside the box is insured through WeatherGuard against theft or damage.

All this talk reminds me, If anyone wants to buy a tonneau cover, PM me. I still have mine and need to find a good home for it since I no longer use it. Please be in the Kansas City-ish area, because shipping is not cheap.

I re-used the one from my Ram....it didn't fit too well as it rubbed against the wheel wells, but I raised it so it's now above the rail. It works fine, and it hold a lot of stuff.
