Would you happen to have a part number to this Check Valve that needs replacing? I scanned my truck and got code P1416. I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 V8. I've seen a diagram of this check valve one time but I can't locate it again. If anyone has a diagram of this check valve and the part number for my Tahoe, I would greatly appreciate some help

you should be able to identify it bank 2 sai check valve is located inline to the tube going to your passenger side exhaust manifold, should use some penetrating oil, one side has a rubber tube going to it, the other is metal, and will require the use of two wrenches to replace.

My engine light came on a few days ago. I scanned it and got a P1416 "Manufacturer Controlled Auxillary Emission Controls". Is this the same as your issue?

GM part # 12567733 very easy to replace, buy 2 valves and replace both the driver and passenger side while your at it.

Hello all,

Does anyone have pictures of the replacement?

Thanks Dan

And some instructions

Removal Procedure

Caution: Allow the engine to cool before servicing the secondary air injection AIR system in order to reduce the chance of severe burns.

1. Remove the clamp from the check valve.

2. Disconnect the AIR hose from the check valve.

3. Remove the check valve from the left side AIR pipe.

4. Remove the left AIR pipe from the exhaust manifold.

5. Before replacing a check valve, test the valve for proper operation.

5.1. Install a vacuum pump to the nipple side of the check valve, AIR pump side.

5.2. Pump the vacuum pump to 10 inches Hg and observe the gauge.

5.3. Replace the check valve if the vacuum bleeds down to zero within 5 seconds.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

1.Install the check valve onto the AIR pipe.

Tighten the check valve to the AIR pipe to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

2.Connect the AIR pipe to the exhaust manifold.

Tighten the AIR pipe to the exhaust manifold to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

3. Install the AIR hose to the check valve.

4. Install the check valve clamp.

I also had the dreaded "SES" light and scanned the P1416 code. After doing a search I came to this thread and found the solution, how cool! I replaced both valves even though only the right was setting a code. In replacing the valves I found that first removing the rubber hose from the valve and then unscrewing the valve from the AIR pipe was the way to go since the AIR pipe fitting is fixed and doesn't move. You need to grab and hold it with a 7/8" wrench while undoing the valve with a 1" wrench. I also replaced the POS squeeze clamps with the worm drive type. The valves cost $24.65 ea (list at $35.20) at the local Chevy dealer so it didn't break the bank. Another place to buy parts is gmpartsdirect.com. They have good prices but the shipping is a little high.

I cleared the code and reset the SES light and neither have returned. So far so good!

Thanks to the GM Tech and all who contributed to the solution.

Thanks, this discussion was very helpful.

I also had the P1416 code (scanned by a local auto parts store), replaced the check valve on my 2001 Tahoe, but still trying to figure out how to clear the SES light short of going to the dealer.

I tried to disconnect the neg battery cable with no luck. I read that does not work on newer models, but tried anyway. Any help or tricks would be appreciated. If a cable/software for laptop or scanner is required, any suggestions to an inexpensive one would be appreciated.

I bought a simple code reader @ PepBoys. Read same code P1416. However, here in California that GM part # 12567733 is EXPENSIVE $42. Nevertheless, the lasws of supply and demand...I bought it. Next time I will shop on line. Found it for $25.

Point is that this forum helped. Thanks to all. Oh...I was able to erase the Service Engine Soon indicator.
