New Ford Commercial

Just saw a new Ford commercial with Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs). Looks like they are taking the Tundra approach and just giving it to the consumer straight up with numbers. A stark contrast to Chevy's overload of John Meloncamp nostalgia. Ford claims a payload of over 3,000 lbs....according to them 890 lbs more than the closest competitor. They also claim to be the only 1/2 ton pickup that can tow over 11,000 lbs. The towing claim didn't really garner much attention w/ me, as I figure that Chevy could throw the 6.2 in and easily bump their towing capacity 500 lbs. However, the payload claim seems like nothing to scoff at. In summation, I'd like to see GM put out some no nonsense commercials saying this is what our truck can do, its not a claim, it's a fact. At the same time, I know that there is a massive numbers game and PR campaign going on here. Does a 500 lb towing advantage or larger brakes make it a better choice...?

I cant imagine trying to tow 11,000 lbs in a half ton, let alone one powered by a V8 that barely puts 200hp to the wheels. 5.4's are dogs. It might be because the one I drove was in a F250, but still felt gutless.

Ford really needs to bump up the numbers on that 5.4l, esp with the competition having 381 (tundra) 360 (vortec max) and 345 (hemi) hp V8's in their half tons. Sure numbers aren't everything, but d**n, they need to do something.

I just saw that commercial last night while watching Dirty Jobs. My wife happened to see it as I was skipping past the commercials, so we rewound it and watched it. The one I saw was talking about the truck's frame.

On a side note, if you haven't seen Dirty Jobs, try to watch it sometime. The show is a crackup. My particular favorite was at the monkey refuge in Africa.

I think the C channel frame they're showing is off the Tundra

The commercial did disgust me a bit....Dirty Jobs is a good show...and that commercial has to be the dirtiest job Mike Rowe has ever done!

Good call. I'd much rather he did a commercial for Chevy, but Mike does a pretty good job on his show, so I'm still a fan. There is plenty to take issue with in that commercial, but I still like their approach (and Toyota's) over some of what we've seen from Chevy.

Dirty Jobs is a great show and I think Ford made a smart marketing move with Mike Rowe. Rowe is like a working Joe on dirty jobs and by using him Ford gets the point across that this is a working truck and not just some dramatization.
