I think you will find the knock sensor circuit goes straight to the PCM and to the ign module. Look in your Factory Service Manual at the wireing diagram and at the code 43 trouble shooting pages.

Have any work done to the starter or exhaust, the sensor is screwed into block just above the starter on the passenger side. It may have been disconnected or wire shorted. If you try to replace the knock sensor TAKE NOTE THAT IT IS SCREWED INTO THE WATER JACKET DRAIN HOLE.

Also be sure that the base timing is set correctly, incorrect timing or even bad gas will cause pre-ignition(ping or knock) that will trigger a code.

the Set Timing Connector may be in 1 of 2 locations, it will be taped to the main harness coming from the ECM/PCM, either under the dash near the computer OR in the engine compartment on the pass. side.

The KNOCK SENSOR MODULE may also be faulty, this is a flat black module usually mounted to a bracket on top of the engine next to the air cleaner on the pass. side usually with 4 or 5 wires going to it....also be sure to check all of your fuses, if I remember right the ENG-1 fuse powers this module. BUT to be sure may I suggest getting your hands on a good repair manual or even subscribing to AllDataDIY.com and follow the diagnostic charts and schematics. These are also an excellent source of reference for wiring diagrams and other repair issues. OR even check your local public library in your area, some have a selection of repair manuals you can reference.
