Overhead Dvd Player

A friend of mine has a GM OEM overhead DVD player out of a 03 Suburban. I would like to know if it will fit in my 07 NBS. And if the wiring harness is in the roof.

Thanks in advance

I don't know, but as a comparison, Best Buy put in a 10" unit, replacing the center courtesy light. $800 plus tax, plays over an fm frequency. Free install, plus free removal. One draw back is, can’t use the rear view mirror with the screen down, and difficult to load from the driver seat. BUT ALL IS QUIET WITH THE HEADPHONES ON.

Don't know about whether or not it will fit to the headliner correctly, but it definately carries a different wiring harness than the 03 model. The older models had the DVD player built into the unit. On the NBS, the audio & video is fed from the head unit, requirng a either the NAV with RSE optioned unit to be installed, or the non-NAV unit that has dual slots for DVD and CD. Also, it does NOT carry RCA jacks, meaning that you will have to have someone determine the signal wires for the audio/video feed and then soldering in RCA's. That's going to get costly. You'd be better off having an aftermarket installed.

Not to worried about mounting. building racecars for a living having to build some type of mounting bracket isnt a big deal. Now being a self contained unit. Can you run a power and ground wire and it works? Does it have speakers built in? I can get the player dirt cheap. Thats why I would like to make it work?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, I don't see why not. If you can find out what the wiring schematic is, you should have the ground, a switched lead and a constant hot lead. I know that those model of players will retain memory from where you were in the DVD when you crank the vehicle back up. So it may be a pretty easy retrofit for ya! Chad
