spiritrider1100 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Nice steering wheel on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=280285760788
knucklehead84 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I am so glad I found this thread everyone...I was actually surprised at how much info was up here, especially on some of the posts with the details on the exact installation of the new steering wheel. Just got a black 08' Silverado LT1...in retrospect should have looked harder for a truck w/ the convenience package (but there weren't any on the lots in the 08 model year left in my area, at least when I was out looking), but no big deal...I just placed an order for a new wheel (15917931) and the DIC panel (19159438) from gmparts...have not made up my mind about who will be installing it but from the posts, I sure am tempted to do the install myself (definitely doing the DIC panel install myself, sounds way too easy). Hope the parts get here soon and can't wait to get the stuff installed...
bomax Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Can anyone confirm whether part # 15917931 is for an all-black steering wheel or one with the titanium inserts? I'd like to get one that has the titanium inserts.
vertex Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 controls out of a tahoe will work. I picked up a steering wheel for 33 bucks on ebay. I would shop around and not spend more then a 100+ for a wheel.

Just want to update for anyone wondering the same thing I was... 15917933 is the steering wheel with TITANIUM inserts 15917931 is the wheel with the BLACK inserts
knucklehead84 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 controls out of a tahoe will work. I picked up a steering wheel for 33 bucks on ebay. I would shop around and not spend more then a 100+ for a wheel. Agreed...if you can find a good deal on ebay go for it...I just went the other route and bought direct out of convenience. You also conversely would not want to get in a bidding war with another person and pay more than you should; I saw an ebay wheel link somehere in here and the winning bid for the wheel was almost $500 bucks...brand new wheel from gmpartsdirect is about $150 plus S&H. Also, thanks bomax for confirming the P/N's, sorry I did not include in my orig. post above. If you already have titanium trim on your current wheel, and you like it, I suggest go with the 15917933 titanium replacement, not the black trim wheel I got. I had the titanium trim, thought maybe I would like the black trim better, but after I installed it I am having second thoughts about the all black...changed my mind and probably will take my old titanium trim off the removed orig. wheel and put it back on the new wheel! Oh well...I guess I had to learn the hard way. At least it appears the trim is easily replaceable after the airbag is popped back off (remember if you are doing the airbag removal yourself to disconnect the neg. battery terminal and leave off for a period of time, I saw one post saying leave batt. disconnected 20 minutes before removing airbag...There are some other posts in this thread with details on removal, or better yet if you have the cash and just don't wanna even go there go with a dealer or other pro install).
kds4evr Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hey All, I've read the entire post but can't find what fits my situation. So maybe someone here has a few ideas . . . 08 Silverado W/T w/o cruise. I see the plug and I can get a harness for the steering wheel/cruise. My issue is mine doesn't have cruise. I don't mind tieing up the cruise plug and not using it, but I do not think they make a shroud for the just the steering wheel controls on the right side w/o cruise do they???? Or perhaps a cover for the cruise side??? If need be I can exchange the spiral as well, but i do think I will need to as the plug appears consistent (I have an avalache 07 I am comparing it to). Any thoughts or ideas???
LawmanSS Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I sincerely doubt that they would make a shroud with radio controls, but without cruise. You just won't find a truck optioned with radio controls, but not cruise. You could perhaps cut your own notch in the shroud to clear the radio control pod.

Any thoughts on the plug in?? Would I need a new clockspring or should it work as it stands right now???

LawmanSS Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 My guess...and I emphasize guess...would be that you would need a new clockspring if the truck doesn't have cruise already. Pulling the wheel is very easy on the GMT900 trucks (no puller needed)...it might be worth your time to pull the wheel and look for the cruise/radio control connector on your current clockspring. There are a couple of real good threads on here about removing the wheel...just ensure that you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag.
mjrodg Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I've read this post in its enitirety. Lots of good information. I picked up my '09 Silverado this past Saturday and absolutely love it. However like most here, I'm looking to do the steering wheel audio upgrade as well. From what I understand, if i order gmpartsdirect part #15917933, (I have the titanium wheel with cruise already on it), I can keep my current wheel and just replace the shroud and add the controls, is that correct? Also, from what I've read, I believe this steering wheel does come with the audio controls, is that correct? I just ordered the DIC panel from gm accessories store, so I'm looking forward to getting that.
