Steering Radio Controls

If you already have the cruise, then yes, you can swap either the entire wheel or just the shroud, control pod, and wiring harness over to your wheel...that's what I did. Unfortunately, you need to buy the entire wheel assembly because the wiring harness is not available separately.

I went to the stealer today, and they told me that "Its not possible to add audio controls." I then told them that was bullshit, and he said that GM blocks the programming on 25% of the trucks, so I may order all of the parts, and it won't work. He then gave me part numbers for the new wheel, and a new coil. I will be buying the wheel off of ebay, but do i need a new coil? My truck already has cruise control. The guy at the dealership is a jackass, I guess I should have known that when he told me the only bumper grilles available will only fit if I remove the tow hooks.

You don't need the coil. That information and everything else IS in this thread.

I believe the sir coil is only needed for the GMT800s.

OK, so I read this post, and bought a wheel from Nordstrms fro $150, and the very next day, there was an Escalade piece for about $50! Damn my luck! Anyway, I followed the steps on this post, but could not figure out the clips that hold on the airbag. i googled it, and low and behold, up came directions from grant steering wheels! After that, the rest was a piece of cake. It works great, so damn the steeler! The wheel i bought has the silver bezels, and after I installed it, wouldn't you know, I like my black ones so much better! Well, I guess I will swap them out in the next couple of weeks or so. Thanks for all of the help and great posting for this topic! Many times, there is nothing but crap posted on here, that its hard to find what your looking for. I think there should be subforums for NBS and OBS, but thats just my 2 cents.

Yeah, once you figure out the "mechanics" of the airbag retention clips, it comes right off...

Yeah, my fingers were sore after pulling that damn thing off! I did the whole thing in the dark, and when I turned my truck back on, I did it from the passenger side just in case I messed something up, the bag didn't blow up in my face! I have been using it since, and I love it!

Just did this mod to my truck, and the airbag was a major pain in the ass for me...I was under the impression it would just "pop" out and so after sticking a long hex wrench and misc small screwdrivers in it for 25 minutes, I almost gave up but decided I'd try pushing in one more time and happened to see the corner of the airbag lifting slightly, so after that it was off in 10 seconds...That "secondary clip" really had me confused for a minute...Everything else went pretty damn smooth, steering wheel came off without much force and the new one went on just as smooth. Torqued the center bolt to 30 ft/lbs, checked for looseness then buttoned everything up. The controls light up on engine start, can't test the audio controls yet as I have a AVIC D3 and need to get a SWI-PS, which will probably be another ordeal (but it will give me an oppurtunity to find that damn chime module and gut it).

I like the all-black look over my silver trim wheel...Overall this was a definite learning experience haha, but I took my time (about 45 minutes total time working) as I didn't want to f-up something. I disconnected the neg terminal AND pulled both fuses that said "Airbag" (Init and Batt?) then waited about 10 minutes before I started prodding it.

Finally got my SWI-PS wired up...Pain in the mutha-fing ass, it's simple on paper but trying to deal with all those damn wires and plastic was a buttkicker. My only issue is the "mute" function simply "attenuates" the radio...I know the radio has a full mute mode but there's no option to switch between them...Everything else works perfect though, volume track source etc. I used the blue wire taps to make most of my connections.

I am wanting to add audio controls to mine. I have a 07 GMC Sierra NBS CC with titanium leather interior and wanted to verify that the part # for the steering wheel replacement is 15917939. If anyone has the same interior and has researched this number let me know if it is correct before I spend $184 on it. thanks.

Well, after the DIC mod I decided I wanted to add the steering radio controls to my truck (2007 Silverado NBS/Z71 4x4/LT1). My wife's Tahoe has them and I really like the setup so I ordered the complete steering wheel setup from GMPartDirects (part no. 15917931, ebony leather wrapped steering wheel). They had just the controls but I wasn't sure if the connectors were in my current steering wheel so I didn't want to risk disasembling the steering wheel and not finding where to plug the controls. The setup was $182.91 total ($149 for the steering wheel and $32 for shipping/processing fees).

I'm still unsure if I want to take it to the dealer and have them install it for me, since I don't want to hear the "your warranty will be voided if you install this in your truck". They already told me that GM didn't sell this part and if it didn't come with it installed from the factory it can't be done.

I read a few posts and it seems fairly simple to unistall the existing one and install a new one, no special tools are needed just need the GM steering wheel puller to take off the steering wheel. But I'm still reluctant to do it because of the Air Bag and I'm not sure if the computer has to be programmed to read the controls.

I know some of you are interested in adding the radio controls so I'll post an update once it's installed. In the meantime if any of you have any inputs on how to "do-it-yourself" or any information about the programming of the computer, please jump in.

Thanks!

Jose

(in hindsight I should have gotten the LT w/ the convenience package since I also want the fog lamps...Oh Well!)

Easiest would be to buy a steering wheel with them and just swap em.

Can anyone confirm whether part # 15917931 is for an all-black steering wheel or one with the titanium inserts? I'd like to get one that has the titanium inserts.

Just want to update for anyone wondering the same thing I was...

15917933 is the steering wheel with TITANIUM inserts

15917931 is the wheel with the BLACK inserts

:(

you missed it

Im looking to buy the (“Collision Catalog - 2009 - GMC – Sierra Steering wheel, Steering wheel and trim, Steering wheel, W/leather w/accessory control, Ebony - W/o wood trim - W/o wood trim) from GMPartsDirect.com (not sure of the parts number...don't know how to get it off their site), can someone who already bought a steering wheel with the controls from them confirm that the cruise and audio control buttons and the shroud are in fact included with the steering wheel package and that they don't just mean that it's made to accept the controls, and that the interior spokes are silver as follow:

This is what I want:
