First GM Vehicle…and LAST!!!

I’ve finally had it with GM! The last straw happened today when I talked a GM customer service advisor in Detroit and was told the following about repainting my black 2007 Sierra Denali; “Each dealer is an independent dealer and DOES NOT HAVE TO HONAR ANY WARRENTY CLAIM.” THIS IS BS!! This came about after I got the better business bureau involved. This is on a thin paint issue that they admit is a factory defect.

And to top it off, the rep from the BBB backed her up and said it can’t be arbitrated! :smash:

I'm going to get rid of it and go to anything not GM.

That does suck, but some dealers suck to! Have you tried other dealerships? I've dealt with two dealerships that where like black and white. Two complete different inteties. You found the s--t hole it sounds like. Try some more man.

You don't understand. This is GM, not the dealer that's saying this!! The dealer can't athorize anything this big ($8000). it has to come from GM. The local dealer won't do it because I didn't buy it from him.

In fact, I was told if I had bought my truck in Fla., I'd have to take it back to the dealer in Fla. to get it repainted!

I think you'll find that with every big item you buy. I'm not sure about the other truck makers. But I went thru it recently with my "lifetime weld warranty" on my Triton aluminum boat.

Their definition of lifetime was as long as the selling dealer wanted to screw it. Any other dealer would say take it back to where you bought it and Triton was OK with that.

Doesn't suprise me that car makers are like that as well. Buy a dealer not a maker is the term I've heard used.

I totally agree...every dealer is different. When I lived in San Antonio, TX I had to buy another factory key fob alarm controller for my wife's 4Runner. The dealer I bought it from told me $25 to program the remote (I used that dealer exclusively for over 5 years). About two weeks later I was driving her 4Runner on the other side of town when I broke my remote. I was near a different Toyota dealer (saw the big Toyota sign) so I pulled in and purchased a new one. The service guy told me to pull around to one of the stalls and programmed the remote right on the spot (they were busy that day too). When he was finished, I asked him how much and he said, "Have a nice day." From then on, I drove the extra 15 miles to do business with that dealer until we moved (which was 4 years later). :driving:

Sorry about the paint job. It sucks that dealers sometimes have the luxury of hiding behind bureaucracy. I sometimes think their version of Customer Service is clouded by their need for revenue! :smash: These a$$holes should know that if you treat customers right, they would never have to worry about revenue (IMO).

My new Dodge Story.

I ordered a new Dodge truck many years ago. With the sliding rear window. The window leaked going thru car wash. I took it back to the dealer. Multiple times and they could not fix it. Or didn't want to replace it. I asked for copies of the work orders for my records. The service manager refused to provide me with copies of work orders for any warranty work. My state has an implied warranty law. Then the service manager refused to do any more for the leaking window. I went to the owner of dealership. He calls in the service manager. And they both agreed that this dealer would no longer do any warranty work on my truck. Truck was only a few months old. I called the regional service manager and he just told me to go to another dealer.

There was a case a few years ago in the newspapers about a guy who purchased a new BMW. The new owner found out that the new BMW had been repainted by the dealership. The new BMW owner complained that he paid for a factory paint job and not a dealership paint job. All went to court.

You are going to find this problem with almost every car manufacturer now. I had the same issue with ALL the Toyota dealerships here. That is the primary reason I went from a completely Toyota family to a Chevrolet family. In most cases, you need to have several positive experiences with 1 service writer in order to get decent service.

Sorry you got a bad deal, but we'll see you back in a few years when the engine goes on your new Ford, or the tranny blows on your Dodge........ Atleast your truck will still run with bad paint.....

I understand your pissed and have every right to be, but don't think this is a GM only thing. All paint these days is crap compared to a few years back. Go buy a Tundra, then you'll have crap paint (even worse), bed bounce, weak frame, tinfoil tailgate, snapping cams, failing tranny, painted interior...etc, etc. You'll be back!!!

I've actually seen where GM has bought-back vehicles for "thin" paint.

I wonder if they would do this for you, then order you a new truck? Did you ask them if they'd do that?

James, have you requested a face to face meeting with a GM Representative. It seems when you get the telephone out of the way and actually meet with a person things can get done.

I would find another Dealer in your area, ask to meet with the Svc Mgr and politely explain your situation and that you only want it corrected. If he or she is worth his salt, he will get you in front of GM Rep.

And be reasonable, calm and collective when speaking with them. Cursing and screaming at them as soons as they say hi wont get you nowheres.

...On a side note,I do not see why so many people have problems with the dealerships. My truck has been out of warranty for some time and my dealer has continued to honor it.

I don't know your situation, maybe you moved, whatever. But one thing I've learned in my years is, it is risky to buy big ticket items from long distance dealers. I have seen many examples. One was a motorcycle a friend bought out of state to save money, when it had major warranty issues, he did not get his due. Same with a neighbor that bought a big ticket RV way out of state, again to save money. He has had to drive it 12 hours ea. way many times to get major warranty work done. Just never seems to work, buying out of your area. If I put myself in the dealers shoes, I can't say I blame them, unless it's a legitamite move situation, or whatever.

Sorry for your troubles, GM should certainly step up, bypass the dealers, and solve the problem. Maybe they can't for some reason?
