Surprised!

Crawled under the truck for the first time today and was surprised by the spare tire & wheel.

The tire is actually the outlined white-letter version of the other four Goodyears- which are black-walls. So the spare tire is actually more expensive than the others. Wow.

The rim appears to be an intersting 7-spoke pattern made of aluminum and is painted black. I haven't taken it down to really confirm this, but it sure look like al around the bolt-holes.

Props to GM!

Now, if I could just find out what is "clanking" in the right-front suspension when I hit a bump... and get the hood to stop vibrating/fluttering when driving down the highway! :uhoh:

I got the same thing...White Lettered P265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tire with an aluminum spare wheel.

You don't even have to crawl underneath the truck to tell which wheel you have,Just look at your RPO codes.."N86" is the aluminum spare wheel and "NZ4" is the steel spare wheel.

I just don't know what determines which wheel you get.

That's incredible that GM has multiple spares. Coming from the Ford world, everyone got the same steel wheel with cheapest tire that matched the size (not the tread) of the primary tires.

Really odd how there is no apparent reason as to who gets which spare. I'm just happy I got a nice tire & rim! :uhoh:

Thanks for that info!

Just checked my nearly $50k sticker 2008 Sierra Denali AWD with factory 20" wheels and it's got the NZ4 steel wheel.

I noticed today while installing my GMC mud guards that my tires are Good Year Wrangler ST P265/70/R17, and my spare is a Good Year Wrangler HP P265/70/R17 and the steel black with the slotted holes. The rims on the truck came with the upgraded aluminum rims. I believe the HP means that their speed rated for 130 mph, and the ST rated for 110 mph.

Ha I have a steel wheel with a white lettered Goodyear All Terrain type tire, the other 4 white outlined lettered tires of a mud terrain type tread on them.

Edit - went and looked. The truck came with Goodyear At/S tires with a white outlined letter. The spare is a Goodyear ST all black tire.

Yea,You see what I mean,We can all have a different spare wheel/tire combo.

I don't know how they determine what truck gets what spare wheel/tire combo.

Use to be that all trucks came with steel spare wheels and your spare tire matched your other four "road" tires exactly.

(I.E. If you got P265/75R16 white lettered Goodyear's for regular tires, you got a matching P265/75R16 white lettered Goodyear spare)

My '07 had P265/65R18 white lettered Bridgestone's with a P265/70R17 Goodyear white lettered spare,My '04 had P265/70R17 white lettered Bridgestone's with a P265/75R16 blackwall Bridgestone spare. :D
