Disabling Afm Options?

Just got 2007 Silverado with 5.3, I know some of you have a tune that disables the V4 function, what brand of programers do you have to buy and do you have to have a custom tune made for it to disable it or is it a choice on any. It would be nice if they made one like the old hyperprogramer and you could just select it off. The V4 bugs me on the highway, its always going back and fourth.

Select average MPG in you DIC and fuhgeddaboutit. When you need the power you won't be in V4 mode. I can't imagine getting to a point that I feel that MPG is too high. But you may have a lot of oil stock.

I've only had the truck for 4 days but 14.4 is all i'm getting for mpg, and thats 75% highway, 65-70 and i have been easy on the pedal. I read somewhere on here some people diable the afm with a tune and are getting better mpg with it disabled....any on that true? Will the truck get better as it breaks in , have you noticed that? I didn't know, some companys make vehical rune rich and change timing till the motor breaks in.

How many miles you got? took mine a couple thousand to settle in.... fuel economy wise....

DiabloSports just released an update to their U7194 Predator Tuner (which works with the NBS GM trucks, as well as some other vehicles) that can disable AFM. You might want to contact them and ask for more details before you run out and buy one, though, just to be sure it does what you want.

Do you really think GM or other MFR's would put AFR or DOD on there vehicles if they could do with out it? They spent lots of money to make your vehicle pass CAFE. GM has more vehicles 18 that beat Toyota,Honda,Nissan,Hyundai.

As for vehicles running rich,no they all have to pass emissions and thats what the computer and related sensors do is keep the vehicle running perfect for at least 100000 miles, do you remember the pre mid 80's when a vehicle had to be tuned every 15000 miles or every year to keep it running the best?

The AFM on my truck is permanently disabled. It never came with it to begin with. And I do not miss it one bit.

I was very disappointed with my 14-15 mpg during the first 1000 miles or so but now that I'm pushing 6K it's 17-18. My DIC (I still think that is about the poorest choice of letters for an acronym) shows my mileage increases to 26-28 when it drops to V4. That ain't bad and it couldn't hurt.

I don't see the whole point of AFM in it's current rendition AT ALL. It doesn't go to V4 mode at highway speeds. It only goes active when you are heading downhill anyway. On flat ground at highway speed it stays in V8 mode and you have to slow down 10+ miles an hour below highway speed to get it to go to V4 mode. Seems like a waste of resources.....

Mine won't switch to V4 on level highway at speeds above 80mph  . I find the more this thing breaks in, the more apt it is to drop into and hang on to the V4 mode.

Remember you engine will not be fully broken in before 12000mi. Give the vehicle time to break in. Of course driving habits, weather & territory have much to do with fuel economy.
