2008 GMC Sierra Regular Cab 1500 4x4 Long Bed Work Truck

This truck has power locks.

I have this fear of being locked out. Yes, I got OnStar.

But beyond that. Can I leave keys in truck? Can I leave engine running? Without fear of being locked out.

Does one have to be pro-active and press the power lock button to lock, then shut door for the keys to be locked inside? Or does/do these trucks lock by themselves?

In the olden days, I would go to hardware store for 2 bucks and get a spare key and a magnetic thingy and place on inside body panel somewhere. But these new keys are quite expensive.

I put the keys in the ignition with the truck not running and locked the doors. The doors automatically unlock by them selves. Open your window and try it out.

Yea,The only two ways you would be locked-out of your truck is if the key was not in the ignition when you hit the power door lock switch,or if the key is in the ignition and you manually push down the door lock knob.

And yes,The keys for these new GMT900 trucks are a little pricey. There not a "couple bucks" anymore.

I ALWAYS do a little trick...no matter what kind of vehicle--if I leave it running for a minute or two.

Move the driver window down about an inch or two. That way, if something screwy happens, you will always be able to "reach" in the car to unlock all the doors.

If he's just worried about lock out he just needs a matching blank not a pricey one. Won't work in the ignition but it'll work in the door.

Most places like that will not have the needed key. If you go to a locksmith you will be looking at around 75 dollars for a key to be made with the resistor in it. The plastic piece can not be removed on these keys b/c the resistor will then be removed. The most valuable piece of advise I can give is to search eBay. I purchased a resistor key for my silverado, my dads Tahoe and my brothers F-150 all for like 45 dollars. Every keys worked, you just bring it to any store and just have them copy your key. I just have mine hidden under my truck, since it wont fit in my wallet, that way if I lock my wallet in also then I still have a way to get in and start it. If you would like the seller that I purchased mine from just pm me and I'll look it up. Much cheaper that way.

that s what I did cause I always hit the lock with my hand by accident when getting out and often leave the key inside.

My dealer did it for 20 bucks...cut the key, and its the chipped/pass key. Just had to follow the key learn sequence in the owners manual.

Your right it you can use a chip that just opens the door and will not work in the ignition. The hardware store that I work at does not have the non resistor blanks for the 2007 NBS yet.

If you leave the key in the ignition and accidently lock the door, It will NOT LOCK. I did that on accident last week!! If your keys are just on the seat youre screwed.

It will lock with the key in the ignition, but only if you manually slide the door lock knob.

It shouldn't, the bcm should be monitoring key in ign and lock position and not let it lock unless you lock it with the remote.
