Door Striker Bolt

Recommended Posts

I have a 95 Sierra K1500, Regular cab. I bought new door striker bolts, but before I pull the old one out... is the backing plate that it threads into going to remain where it is? Or is it going to drop to the bottom inside of the body???? Possibly requiring me to pull the interior trim to retrieve it.

Thanks

For starters, NO the backing plate won't fall into the door. Once it is loose it will move around quite a bit. (this is your adjustment). I'd recommend taking a marker and drawing a circle around the base before loosening it so you can get it back in the original position. Other than that it should be pretty easy.

It will drop... And you will have to disassemble the trim. I listened to an "expert" and I spent another 30 minutes removing trim on my 97.

I won't claim it is impossible but, unless it has been previously damaged or modified, it won't drop. It is captive within the douple walls of the reinforced portion of the pillar. I've seen a lot of them removed with no issue.

I am no expert but I stand by my original answer...

Mine didn't move on my old truck. I didn't think about the possibility of it moving. I probably got lucky and it was rusted together. :D

So, the backing plate was not captured. I had to cram my hand behind the body trim to hold the plate in place, or it would drop.

Not a big deal. Only took 2 screws to loosen the trim enough to get my hand in there.

Or the magnet idea... would do the same.

Stand by it all day long but you are incorrect. I am the original owner and it is a southern truck with no rust. While some earlier trucks were, it isn't the case on these body style trucks. It is a nut welded on a flat plate of metal.
