Splash Guards

Can anyone tell me what is the difference is between the OEM contoured and molded splash guards. I can see the obvious differences in size, but the molded ones are three times the price than the countoured. Are the molded ones that much better. I would much rather pay $13 a pair than $32 a pair, unless the countoured one are junk.

I asked the same question when I bought mine. The dealer laid them side by side, and the molded are vehicle specific. The others were about 2 inches longer, and would go on basically anything, in fact I had put the same ones on a Tahoe I own.

I went with the molded, they look great.

I paid the extra for the molded ones , IMO they dont look cheap or universal. If you like the molded ones better $50 extra is a small price to pay for something as expensive as a new truck. They fit like a glove and I will never get another pair of universal ones if I can get something factory, I made that mistake with my Honda Element.

I have the moulded ones too but I am questioning the adverse effect on fuel economy the front guards probably cause. They look like two large scoops form the front and I bet they cause quite a bit of additional aerodynamic drag at high speeds.

With everything in front of them, i doubt they cause enough drag to make a noticible difference in your fuel milage

I've got the molded one on order. How hard were they to install. Is there a DIY thread somewhere?

They were not hard to install, except that for the front ones I could not use the supplied inserts, as GM evidently believes that you can push a square insert in a round hole and keep it stationary while you are driving a self tapping screw into it. So I reused the original push pins in the front. Of course this was on an '06 truck, and I have no idea if they modified the design on new ones. No drilling was required on mine.

I went with the non mold ones ($15 a pair) mostly due to living in the midwest and I didn't want a place that sand and salt could sit. But I think the molded ones look great too.

I overpaid for my splash guards because I bought them from a crooked Chevy dealer who charged me 10% over retail and lied about the price. I know, my mistake - should have checked the price, but he had them in stock, so I bought them. The good news is that the SOB filed for bankruptcy recently. This is the same dealer that put a drop in bedliner into every new truck and charged $ 450 for it (retail about $ 250), and marked up each truck by additional $ 1000 for undercoating and waxing. I still do not understand how he stayed in business so long.

Man that sucks, the chevy dealer that is across the street from me has a very nice parts deparment, the are open 730am to 9pm M-F, and they don't have any markup. When I'm feeling lazy I evern get my oil filters from them insted of Farm and Fleet were they are only $3.50 for the Acdelco filter.

I had the same question when I was ordering mine. Basically the contour ones were flat square ones that were not designed specific for the truck and stick out beyond the fender. The moulded ones match the curves of the truck and are not flat.
