unit731 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Is there a 'police package' for pickup trucks? Maybe, that will be my next truck!
MS3DALE Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Is there a 'police package' for pickup trucks? Maybe, that will be my next truck! Nope,Sorry.
sonjaab Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Yea Rich.........That bad boy only has 2WD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty hard to sell up here in blizzard land! Its in NYS trooper blue but up here they use 4wd hos'. I also note that it is Federal emissions and NOT NY or northeast emission vehicle............... That dealer has been in business as a Chevy dealer for years in podunk Chittenango NY ( home of Frank L Baum-the wizard of oz guy). They took over a old Lincoln/Merc. dealers old showroom in yuppieland suburbia Syracuse and sell tons of late model used cars. They run infomercials day and nite on tv !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bud is a service tech there and sez they sell a LOT of units!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything from Mercedes, Vettes to toyotas! ...........geo
GMCStepSide Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 They're very nice rigs but unlike the 2 wheel drive model listed above, keep in mind the 4x4 version is not pursuit rated like an Impala or Crown Vic. So if you think you will purchase a 4x4 unit and go 130 mph weaving in and out of traffic and around corners, give it a second thought or at least post the video on youtube for he rest of us...it'll be a great crash film they can dub into COPS. The biggest difference between your family Tahoe and the PPV Tahoe is dual batteries, no center console, a spotlights in on or both pillars, rubber floors, cloth front seat, rear vinyl seat, rear inside door handles and windows don't work, no Onstar, no luggage rack, and a ton of preinstalled wiring for lights, speakers, etc. They are nice trucks for the purpose with tons of room and when all decaled up look fantastic. Price is roughly $32,000 for the 4x4 version. If you're going to get a DUI, get nailed by an officer driving one of the PPVs as they make for a very classy ride to the pokey. And yes, the Wasilla Police Department is proudly driving three of the new 4x4 5W4 Special Service Vehicle SSV (the 4x4 model isn't referred to as a PPV as it's not pursuit rated) Tahoes and love them. Bigger inside, 4x4, more durable, better resale value, etc., make the Tahoe a fantastic vehicle for this application.
j.roffel Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Maybe some of you guys that hate it could convince your dealer to get that onstar delete on your next truck.
pm26 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Just wondering - can a private citizen order one of the police package vehicles, or at least select options, like police suspension? Of course, I do not care for vinyl mat floors or inoperative rear door handles, or outside spot lights. Other things would not be bad, i.e. dual batteries, 160 amp alternator, extra wiring for accessories, etc. I am amazed that they did not delete the AFM, which seems like a waste of money for police use anyway. In the past, I inquired about ordering a new police package Crown Victoria, but was told that only police and fire departments and other city/state/federal organizations could purchase them. I found a brand new Crown Vick for sale about 6 years ago at a Ford dealership. The police department ordered one too many, so they sold that one to the public. I also saw a nearly new State Trooper CV for sale. This one was a special order for someone who had a buddy int he local police department. It had 3.55 rear end (standard Crown Vic is 2.73) nice seats, cruise control, and other civilian goodies. That was a very rare car indeed. Had about 3k miles on it, but the asking price was a bit too high.
Metro12 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Ford is the most strict on only allowing government to order their police package. You can get a ford dealer to do it, but it is a bit difficult. Dodge is by far the easiest, and chevy dealers usually won't put up a fuss about ordering the police package. Last year I was haggling back and forth on price for my 07 Charger. The dealer found out I was LEO, and wanted to try and get me in a Police Package Charger. We don't drive them at work, but wasn't really interested unless they sold it at state bid, which they wouldn't!!
strafingmoose Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hmm, MS3DALE, from where did you pull that info ? CARFAX doesn't return nearly as much precise details
unit731 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Purchase Police Package. Yes and No. I have a neighbor who always purchased a good used Crown Vic. He knows the owner/manager of large dealership near big city. Lots of fleet vehicles come and go. My neighbor would always get an unmarked (not repainted) dark blue Crown Vic. Every few years. Always a clean car. His last was a new Crown Vic with Police Package. So it can be done. But my point is who wants it. Gas mileage stinks. Repairs are higher when due. And I don't have a clue as for trade-in. And my neighbor is an old guy. So he doesn't need it for speed. Just some sort of ego status thing.
99silveradoz71 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hmm, wouldn't mind that instead of the accident unit Expedition I have now for a work ride except the Expi is 4wd. You're right, the 2wd is pursuit rated and the 4wd is not. Thus why our pursuit policy got re-written when they made a confiscated burb a supervisor's vehicle and got the Expi. No pursuits in the 4wd's.
Bostonsfavson Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Can anyone here elaborate as to why the 4WD versions aren't "pursuit rated?" Just curious.
