Radio Buttons, Paint Coming Off

My 05 Silverado has 1000 miles left on Full warranty and the paint is coming off of the radio station selector buttons. Instead of a #1 showing, there is a unidentifiable round unpainted appearance where the 1 should be. The 3 is also starting to wear thru. Am I just being a whiner or a complainer by wanting it right since it is still under warranty or should I just shut up and deal with it. I have considered trying to black it out with some flat black paint but I think that will make it look worse than it currently is.

If it is covered under warranty. Then get a new one.

But I have endlessly heard that wear items are not covered. Whatever that means.

But how much does a knob cost or is it integrated into the whole radio meaning the whole thing has to come out. At that point, you get into the wear items again.

But place a claim anyway and try to get a paper copy with a miles and dates stamped.

I doubt they will cover it, but who knows. You can probably get a stock one off ebay for $25. People allways change them to aftermarket and nobody wants the stockers so they practically give them away.

So if I bought one off Ebay, would it just plug and play or would it require some programming?

I went to Ebay and there are many people selling radios but, None show a pic of the actual radio for sale. The have 3 pages of info and every excuse in the book for not taking a pic of the actual unit for sale. Maybe I'm just paranoid but how can some-one expect some-one else to spend a wad of money on something that the seller won't even post a picture of? How can they have time to post a stock pic and take the time to tell you it's a generic picture and we sell too many radios to take a pic of the one we are trying to sell you. Why would I put that much money out to find out in 2 weeks that the radio I just bought was the wrong one. I guess I'll keep looking for somebody to post a radio with an actual pic of what I'm buying before I spend my money on it. I hate to be picky but I want the exact radio that came with the truck and not something that's almost the same.

Take it in under warranty. It's bumper to bumper so they will cover it and worse case, you shop around on Ebay or other. You have nothing to lose by checking and it's likely they will replace the entire unit.

I had the truck in for warranty work 2 weeks ago and mentioned it and I was told to check with parts and see if I could buy the buttons, I didn't do so as I felt it should be under warranty. I sent GM an email asking if it was covered under warranty a little while ago. They are quite fast to reply as I've contacted them before and heard back the next business day. I will hopefully hear back tomorrow and see what they say. The dealer I'm seeing is actually very unimpressive, I couldn't get anything done for warranty before I contacted GM in Michigan, then the dealer was happy to oblige me and my concerns.

I doubt they will replace your radio if the problem is that the numbers are wearing off the buttons.

Its like saying my paint has some rock chips cause ive been driving it and trying to get it repainted under warranty.

GM has actually covered the radios where the paint wore off and even when one of the lights went out.......even one pixel, just talk with the sm.....i had mine covered.....the whole radio will be replaced...

This is happening to some of the guys on the Hummer forum and they are getting new units, so it's a GM wide issue.

Just thought I would let you know.

I had a radio replaced for the paint coming off. The only bummer was they had to send the radio in and I was without a radio for a week or so. It was worth it though.
