Hey all. I noticed today when I was driving that there were a few drops of water coming out of the map lights on my 07 NBS Silverado. I have no idea where this water would be coming from? I tried to pull down the overhead consle (can you even call it that?, all thats in it is the map lights) but didnt want to break it by pulling too hard. Any imput would be real helpful. I might have to get them to look at it when I go and get my fuel gauge fixed. :smoker:

probably leaking from the stupid onstar antenna... do not attempt to remove the headliner, take it to the dealer.

I agree. The only hole in my roof is the Onstar antenna. Personally I wish GM would shove "Onstar whether you want it or not" Up their.... well you know.

Guaranteed to be OnStar antenna allowing water in.

 

Already seen a few at the dealership.

 

We've also had 07/08 Sierra Sunroofs leaking...and leaking bad...

Ok, just an update. I managed to get the consle down (dang screws under the light cover) and found something interesting. It doesnt appear to be leaking from the onstar/xm fin, but instead is just condensation. I peeked up between the headliner and the roof, and there are all these little drops of water on the roof. Not too many, but enought to cause a few drops to drip out of the light. Anyone else see this? I wll have to tell the dealer about this, see what they say.

Question: is the NBS On star antenna a separate antenna just for the On-star or is it a dual XM radio/On star antenna. The one on my '06 is a dual purpose antenna. I have it because I have the XM radio, but no On-star. Is the NBS '7 on antenna the same as the '06 antenna? I have not had any problems with mine.

Some water dripped out of my 2008 GMC Sierra map lights too. I pulled down the map light housing a bit, and seems to be just condensaton; but how can it be fixed? Have you taken yours in yet? What did the dealer say? Thanks!

If you have condensation...you have had the LEAK for a while.

Also make sure your not using the Re-circulation air setting on your AC/Heater in the cold weather. This can cause a build-up in the vehicle as well. (your windshield will stay de-fogged more frequently if you use fresh and not Re-Circ)

My truck had a leak at the cab-mounted brake light gasket (so they said). I discovered the leak when I went to fasten my kid in their booster seat in the back which requires fully extending the seatbelt to engage the locking mechanism. When I pulled the seatbelt out, I could feel that it was wet.

Would it be advisable to silicone around the antenna as a preventive measure? Sounds cheezy, but better than a leak.

Or can the antenna be removed without monkeying with the headliner so the gasket( there is one , right?) could be siliconed?? :lol:

Cool, I will check the third brake light when I get home and report out what I find.

I wouldn't do it as a preventative measure, usually they leak because of car washes. If you go to one of the car washes with brushes the roof can get dimpled when the roller hits the antenna. If that happens you will see a small gap at the front of the antenna base.

 

No the antenna cannot be removed without monkeying with the headliner. It's held in from the backside with a 3 or 4 prong clamp that is tightened to the roof panel by a bolt. You need to pull down the headliner enough to access the bolt and clamp to remove the base.

 

When these come into the shop I give 2 options. I can drop the headliner enough to get there, remove the base and put some sealer around the hole, that will stop any leaks. Option 2 is send it to the body shop and have the roof panel straightened out. Most go with the former but there is still a tiny visible gap there.

 

 

Anyone else looking for a leak, just drop the headliner enough to see the antenna base and the third brake light and have someone hit the area with a hose. There isn't really any big secret to finding a leak, we just hit them with water and start removing things till we see the entry point. Fixing a water leak can be a difficult thing sometimes but finding it (although really time consuming) is pretty easy.

      Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.

      That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.

After you factor in “out of warranty” service work and new car sales when these engines fail before their time, it’s a good racket for them. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!
