Update...

 

Had my truck at dealer today. 2 Service Concerns on Repair Order.

 

1. Clunking noise possibly from rear of vehicle

2. When active fuel is engaged, owner comments vehicles shakes between 30-35 mph. With active fuel off, no shake noticed.

 

I was able to duplicate a snap/clunk noise a few days ago---traced it to the rear of vehicle.

 

Leaf springs were packed full of ice, causing noise. Cleaned out rear leafs-ok.

 

Complaint 2.

 

Guys...I truly think this active fuel is more of a headache than it is truly worth.

 

Tech checked for any type of codes-none. Updated my PCM for ANY new software available. (In other words, the Tech had to try **something**)

 

No active fuel management programs updated. In fact, there was only one update for the PCM...and that was to correct a minor glitch from the factory.

 

Complete underbody inspection was done also...everything tight and ok. Motor mounts, trans mounts...everything.

 

So, in essence, updating the PCM was a "shot-in-the-dark". And, nothing was corrected.

 

SOOO, I got creative also.

 

While at the dealer, I drove 2 other 08 Sierra's, all with virtually the same equipment.

 

Smooth as silk. No vibrations. Nothing.

 

I hop in mine..the "Human Blender", and drove home.

 

I'm not making a big stink about this...just want to weigh my options as of right now. Opinions?

try to get them to duplicate it, it is the engine and trans computers?, did they check the trans for the latest calibrations, these are suggestions in the dark as well.....

mmm that sucks i feel for u. nothing worse than not fully enjoying a brand new truck cuz of some issues.

 

did they check out the drive line? torque converter? tranny? drive shaft? universal joints?

 

something has to be making the truck shake, they should be able to isolate especially if others dont do what u describe...

Active fuel management in itself may not be worth, but would we rather pass on the technological advances no matter how small? Apparently yours has a problem and needs to be fixed. I've heard a lot of comments about how owners wish their truck did not have active fuel management. I think it is a great step in the right direction. This is the first series of engines that GM has used it on. It may not be Honda mode, but I can see when it is used an instant savings of 3-5mpg, Equates to about 2mpg average in my case. I think that is pretty good. And when you consider what is happening in the engine when it is active, I am extremely impressed with how seamless and unoticeable it is. I think it works great, and one 'small' technological advance on top of another on top of another adds up to a great break through. If GM were to skip the small things how will they ever make a big break through?

 

P.S. This isn't exactly directed to this thread or anybody, just ramblings of mine...

Yup...everything was inspected.

 

Remember, the shake only happens 30-35 mph, with the AFM engaged "ON"

 

With AFM "OFF" it is smooth as my old '06

Yes...the trans is up-to-date also.

If I sit down with the Store General Manager, I wonder if he would allow to "switch" me to a different pickup. What do you guys think??

 

I'm not going to be a jerk about this...I've bought alot of cars/trucks from this store. And, this dealer didn't "BUILD" my truck...GM did. This store has always treated my very well...

 

I'm only at 470 miles now...I truly don't trust this truck enough to go far from home with it...

yep, and ask for the DVM (District Vehicle Manager) to input on the concern, problem is that the dealership would be the one that would have to be willing to take the deal and run with it, they may ask for the DVM's involvement, it may work, it may not, it is tough to tell, worst case scenario is that they could say no and leave it at that....what sucks is that the engine may have not been completely balanced internally or it may be out of spec by a couple of millimeters which would lead to the shaking.....

get the district rep involved soon...if no satifaction ....go higher up the ladder ,You paid good money for that truck and dont settle for less....be nice but be persistant

 

....take the other 2008 for a test drive and return when your truck is fixed right...

Whatever you do try not to lose money if you want another truck. This isn't your fault! File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (who GMC arbitrates through) and tell them what you want if you don't get anywhere with the district manager

Just a question now have you taking the truck out for a drive with a shop foreman? I had a problem with my window when I had it tinted and I had the truck in so many times and everytime it would never be fixed. So I dealt with it my way and went straight to a head shop foreman and took him out to duplicate the problem and we did and the problem was resolved. He told me to never deal with the service people again and to come directly to him and ever since if I had a problem its been dealt with properly. Some times issuses can be fixed with the right people.

You can always Lemon Law it - I do not know the laws where you are but here in FL they have 3 times to fix the same problem - if not Lemon!
