Linex - Rhino Voiding Toyota Warranty?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine with a Tacoma that is two years old is having rust issues on his cab corners. Toyota dealer told him due to him altering the paint surface to put in the liner they are voiding his warranty. He went back with the M/F Act in hand yesterday and still no deal so he left to another dealer who told him the same thing. He found an attorney to take the case who knows cars so let's see how this turns out - my input here is how many excuses can a company give for not honoring a warranty when the part affected is not even connected to the part that is failing........

I think he'll win this.....shame he has to resort to an attorney.

My DEALER offered Line-X as a dealer installed option for my truck. THat tells me that they would honor any warranty issues, as they installed it.

Recent news reports look gloomy for ALL manufacturers, Toy included.

Warranty concession is the lowest hanging fruit in making THIS year's numbers look better than dismal. Just ask Ford.

That's ridiculous. They suck. As the other guy said, he'll probably win, and hopefully tiayota will be paying his attorney fees.

I hate dealers like that !!!!

Fug that...He will hopefully win. Mine was line-x'd compliments of the dealer so they shouldn't win this one.

Every dealer in town started out doing their own spray in liner, now only 1 chev dealer still is doing their own, the rest are using line x, including the toyota dealer. Tell your buddy to call the local news station. If its a slow news day, im sure they will run a little story, which will put more pressure on toyota and casue a drop in business for them for being so anal retentive..

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that a Tacoma has a composite inner bed? Why would you line-x a bed that is already made of durable plastic? Either way, it shouldn't void the warranty.

Posted

And why would "durable plastic" be rusting through anything? It's pretty dumb considering that thousands of vehicles have a spray-in and I've never heard of any causing rust.

Warranty denile because of mods is a fact of life! No matter if its a lift,

tires, rims, exaust, snowplow etc. If the dealers a dick they CAN and

WILL deny warranty coverage!

They just LOVE some bonehead spouting off about the Mag/moss act

then showing them the door!

Its not up to THEM to prove that the mod didn't cause the failure!

Its up to YOU to prove it didn't......................

Sure....Call 100 lawyers! Its your dime and while you jerk around your

vehicle is STILL broke or messed up and YOUR walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See posts like this all the time on these forums!

Sad but true!

That's odd.

I just read something recently about Toyota having to extend their corrosion warranty on Tacomas because they were prone to rusting out. I can't remember all the details but how convenient is it to now begin denying rust claims on those same vehicles?

I'll see if I can't drum up that article.

You're referring to the frame problems Toyota is having with the Tacomas, correct Tobias? Here's an interesting thread on it: Tacoma frame issues.

Jeremy, I can see why people would want to put spray-in liners in these trucks. The liner will protect the paint in the bed. Looks good too

Yes, I was. I had just found the article I was referring to. I just couldn't remember what it was that was rusting. Oh well.

X2 My dealer offers Line-X also - Manufactures are all the same, they put the problem back on you in hope you just give up, saving them money.

I'm curious. The rusted portion is on the passenger cab and the line-x is on the inside of the bed. At worse, over the rails. Does this negate the entire warranty on the vehicle or just the paint?

Regardless, I'd go over the dealers head and start with Toyota's regional office. Make the statement that this is going out on every forum, blog and chain email they can hit. Word of mouth use to be strong. The electronic word is 100 times stronger. If they think their truck sales are falling now, wait until this hits the Internet channels.

Could work, might not. But I'd throw it out there.

I'm confused. The rust is on the cab and the dealer denied warranty because the inside of the bed has a liner? Is there more to the story? Was something done to the cab when they put the liner in? I don't think that they could deny warranty on whole truck, just because it has a bed liner.
