Leaky Muffler

Just like the title sounds....water or condensation or whatever is dropping from the exit where my muffler meets the back tailpipe. So I'm just thinking should I replace it with a new muffler? I've got the 4.3 V6 so muffler suggestions would be appreciated and I'm not trying to make it sound mean maybe just a little extra growl. I had a s-10 with 4.3 and installed a cherry bomb turbo muffler and it was kind of annoying so I dont want that experience. I already know what the 4.3 sounds like w/o a muffler and it's cool on the low end but the high rps are no good. I may just forget about it but if it's loosing alot of backpressure or something I will replace it. Oh and any ideas of where to route the exit pipe because I go through alot of mud and puddles in the winter and I don't want it sucking water in if I get off the gas

Ideas suggestions and whatnot are welcome and thanks

On my 96 and 02 s-10s that had the 4.3L engine I had a flowmaster 40 delta flow series. It sounded great, I had alot of people comment on the exhaust sound and how it doesn't sound like a V-6 but almost like a V-8.

Do you mean the small drain hole in the muffler itself? Or just a place where it needs to be welded? All mufflers have a small hole so that moisture can find it's way out. If it's where 2 pipes meet, then you can just weld that up if you'd like.

But no muffler is going to sound good on a V6. You may think it sounds good because it's loud or something... but trust me, it doesn't. :banghead:

NO NO the flowmaster 40 series wasn't very load on the V-6 but it had a low rumble like a V-8 had and sounded good. It didn't even sound like a ricer like most people think it would. But more closer to a v-8 truck.

On a V-6, stock is best.
+1

Sorry, but that is the truth. I know someone around here who runs a single-in-dual-out IMCO (Flowmaster knock-off) muffler and another person who has straights on their 4.3L, both sound like absolute crap.

I am going to have to agree with above on this one. I know a couple kids at my school who have mufflers on 4 cylinder and v6 engines. They dont sound to great and get very annoying.

yea I heard a sierra the other day with a muffler and it sounded terrible. I will have to check but yes I believe it drips at the weld. At least it's not like my cuzins '86 s-10 where the whole exhaust came off after the cat weld lol. that 2.5 or 2.8 or whatever sounds nice. I'll prolly just forget about it or see if some of that jbweld stuff or whatever would patch it up. I myself have never been into loud at all. Thanks for the advice all

Yeah, it's important to listen to your exhaust inside AND outside. Lots of folks don't realize how different it can sound to everybody else. Which is funny considering a lot of folks get the exhaust just so other people can hear their awesome exhaust. Only to find out their V6 sounds like a 4-banger.

That's exactly what I did with my stereo system....went outside of the truck turned it up and listened to see what others would hear. I've got rattle in the tailgate and rattle from my toolbox. I tried to get rid of it as much as I could and I did somewhat but I just can't stand when stuff rattles. I have nothing that rattles inside and it sounds perf. I was just thinking on the muffler a little above stock noise output ha ha nothing major but Ima prolly get some rims because my tires are wearing out so it's just another reason

I have a summit turbo on my 93 4.3 v-6 cause it was cheap and it actually sounds really nice inside and out. If your looking for something cheap I'd suggest that.

a chambered muffler on a 6cyl isnt going to sound good, in my opinion. instead get ahold of a magnaflow or borla packing style muffler. they will sound good and get you what you are looking for
