Bluetooth Options For 2008 Silverado

Scott, where in the devil did you get that chart?!?!

I've been looking for that information for MONTHS and gotten nothing.

You can get the same information from TIS2WEB:

Just enter in any VIN and choose the VCIM. I just noticed that 2007 and 2008 models don't have VCIM info in the system for some reason...not sure if some vehicles were left out or what.

I just flipped through the pages that link goes to and thats exactly what I just did at the dealership yesterday and we got the message "Programming Successful"

Are you saying that because I put in my 2007 VIN it actually didn't correctly do the setup, so I need to enter a 2009 VIN to activate a Bluetooth VCIM because they only got released in 2009?

I ask because OnStar keeps telling me they are getting the error message on their end "bad model year software error"

Bad meaning it wasnt matching my VIN 2007?

Bad meaning it wasnt matching the software from the year they first produced BT VCIM software?

Answering this might help a few of us......

After doing a bit more looking in TIS, I would agree that's probably the key to this whole thing. We need to use a 2009/2010 VIN to pull up the appropriate software that also matches the specific type of headunit installed in the vehicle. If I had to guess, the reason RayGMC was able to get his OnStar activated without too much trouble is because the used VCIM he purchased came from a vehicle with a matching audio system in it already.

It also explains why I've been having problems getting OnStar to load the right software into my unit. My truck originally came with a 6CD changer in the dash, and I replaced it with an OEM Navigation unit. OnStar doesn't know this, nor does GM's database that pulls up information based on how the truck was built at the factory.

Well after going to the dealer for my 3rd ONSA TIS2WEB setup procedure (no charge) I would tend to agree with you Charlie. On* is telling me yet again they are getting error message "Invalid make or model software" and they cannot complete the download setup from their end.

Im confused though.

When Chris did the programming it was necessary to use the VIN from our vehicles because that is what makes the vehicle and module recognize each other. I'm saying that we should be using an 09/10 VIN to pull up the proper software to flash in during ONSA. I don't think that what Chris did would have been dependent on the audio system.

I just put in our VCIM part number 20783877 and TIS2WEB page says invalid part number....WTF?

That is a GMSPO hardware part number; the TIS site is looking for SPS software calibration part numbers.

I am willing to go to the dealer and try it out next week. I figure they owe me a free set-up since the screwed me last time I was in. I can't get there before Friday though. Anybody got any good ideas on where to get an '09 VIN? Let me know if you guys think it is worth giving this a try.

Entirely possible; that is exactly what I plan to do at this point: get the dealer to use their Tech2 to read out what hardware ID is in the VCIM I have, then use a 2009 or 2010 VIN in that TIS menu to find the correct software/calibration part number that matches up with both the VCIM and the audio system in the vehicle for them to use during ONSA.

If my suspicions are correct, it shouldn't screw up what Chris White already did, and if it does screw something up I'll just have to track him down and see about getting him to fix it (since it would appear he's either out of business or just on vacation, I'll just hope I can get in touch with him).

You should be able to just pull the VIN off any brand new truck on your dealer's lot for this purpose.

Find a truck for sale online that closely matches your truck with same options maybe.......thats what Im doing

Just to be clear, reprogramming / reflashing with a different VIN could get you the correct software / calibration. However, I'm not sure if using a different VIN for the ONSA / onstar account learning is a good idea. This could link your VCIM module with someone else's onstar account. Not sure about that, as I believe each VCIM has a unique hardware ID (kinda like a computer modem), which they use to link your truck to your onstar account.

To be equally clear, I'm not suggesting that the VCIM needs to be flashed with a VIN for a different vehicle -- actually quite the contrary. The proper VIN for the vehicle still needs to be present in the VCIM for it to work properly.

All I'm suggesting is that we obviously need to use the VIN from a newer bluetooth-equipped vehicle (regardless of what else it has in it equipment wise) in order to access the menu in TIS2WEB with the software calibration part numbers as you posted in chart form earlier. From there it's just a matter of matching up the correct VCIM hardware ID and the type of audio system in the older vehicle being programmed in order to choose the correct software calibration part number that needs to be flashed into the VCIM.

Guess my search is on for a 2009 with similar options. I wonder how close it has to be? Found one that is pretty close, but I have a crew cab and it is an extended cab. Close enough? I am willing to give it a try. Let me know if somebody gets around to it before I can get to the dealer on Friday. Good luck to everyone trying it this way. I haven't had Chris White work on my VCIM yet, so maybe it will give us an answer if it is required or not. Here's to hope!

Have you guys seen these AfterMarket OEM style Navigation Radios?........very close to OEM but you get built in BlueTooth and everythings on the radio display. Mapping Geo data is on an SD card so no more GM Nav Discs.

If you're looking to add Navigation and BT this might be worth considering.
