04 chevy 4x4 2500 hd 6.0l

Okay so today i pulled into work and i did part tight up again the curb, actually kinda bumped it pretty good. But anyhow so when i went to leave the service 4wd was on. I pulled over and turned the truck on and off real quick. It did not go away. SO then i drove to the bank 1.0 miles turned it off, grabbed the manual it says turn off and on. So i started it back up and then it still said service 4wd. So i was like F'this i was mad. Just bought the truck and it only has 45k miles on it. SO come out of bank 5 min and it is fine. it has been fine ever sense. I have drove about 20 miles since and turned off and on 6 to 8 times.

Could there just have been a lot of torque on the transfer case because of how i parked against the curb. and it did not clear the first couple times on and off because i did not wait long enough.

I ran the codes with the hyper tech and nothing came back. ANY IDEAS I AM SO Stressing about my new truck.

DO i need to take it into chevy.... I called they said 500-1500 to fix and the problem will just get worse

One common problem with the Service 4WD message is a bad switch assembly. You get the message in the DIC but no codes. I had that problem with my truck for a couple months. The message would come on and stay for awhile and then go off. It got to the point that the message would come on for weeks at a time and then stay off for a week.

I talked to the techs at the shop where I work and they said that it's usually the contacts in the switch or a failed solder connection in the circuit board.

So I replaced the switch assembly and no more problems. The switch runs around $60 retail and you can replace it in about 5 minutes. Pull the surround trim from the dash, remove the two screws that hold the switch assembly in place and pop off the wire harness. Install the new switch and you're done.

I had the same issue with my 2003 1500 a few years back. It ended being a problem with the assembly and it needed to be replaced. I believe I just got the parts through GM.

If it is the switch where is the cheapest and best place to get one. Thanks RIchard
I think most people are getting them off e-bay.
