New Audio System In 06 2500 Hd

I have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD crew cab 4x4. Last year I installed an Alpine IVA-W200 dvd, boston acoustics 6 1/2's in all four doors (powered by head unit), a MTX thunderform behind rear seat (with 2 MTX 4500 10" subs), and an Audiobahn a800v 2 channel amp driving the subs. Well, it just aint loud enough for the tailgate parties. So here's my question.....I have just bought 6 1/2 infinity components (2 ohm) for the front doors, 6 1/2 infinity 3 way (2 ohm) for the rear doors, 2 infinity 104.7w subs to go in the thunderform (2 ohm), and an infinity 475a amp(4 channel) for the door speakers and an Infinity 611a (mono) amp to power the subs. All of my new stuff needs to be run at a 2 ohm load to get my RMS ratings of my amps an speakers to match....How do I do this???

This 2 ohm wiring stuff really confuses the hell out of me.....Thanks for any help

What are you gonna do with the old Boston's? I would be interested in them.

I'm going to sell all of it. I can't remember the model # of the boston's. I still have the original boxes at home. I can email you later and tell you which ones they are. I bought them from Crutchfield about 14 months ago. They're is absolutely nothing wrong with them just not loud enough for tailgating. If you look on Crutchfields website, they are the shallow mount Boston 6 1/2" 2 ways. I also have bass blockers for each of them. I'll sell all of them and the bass blockers for $125

I don't need the bass blockers. How about $110 for all 4?

I do that as long as you pay shipping as well. Will probably be 2 weeks before I'll be able to get them out and all my new stuff installed....but there yours if you want em

Get me an estimate on shipping first before I decide anything.

Can your amps run a 2 ohm load? If not you will overheat the amps and trip on overload assuming they have overloads. Are your subs dual or single voice coil? This will make a big difference in how your wire your subs to get the total resistance (ohms) of 2 ohms if that is in fact what you are shooting for.

Did some research for ya based on the model numbers you talked about.

You will need to connect your subs in series ( left speaker amp terminals to the left sub + and -, right speaker amp terminals to right sub + and -).

With your subs voice coils wired in parallel to give a 2 ohm load for each. This will split your total output for the amp since they are connected in a 4 ohm total series load so the output will have to split the power to each 2 ohm sub. So you will get 228W (based off the 456W to 1 4 ohm sub in the specs for your amp) to each sub granted you can keep a contstant 14.4 DC volts to your amps which is more like 11-12 volts by time you get the voltage drop through the power cable so you will probably be gettin more like 190 to 200 watts to each sub, which is in their recommended power range.

Do not connect your subs in parallel:

(Left + connected to left sub + and right sub + and Right - connected to left sub - and right sub -) or vice versa , this will give you a 1 ohm load and will overheat your amp and will shutoff when the overloads opens up.

As for the rest of the speakers just connect them as normal to the 4-channel amp (ex. RF + and - to, RF + and - amp termainls)

Hope this helps

so what you are saying is the subs I have cant get the 2 ohm power the amp can give. The amp says it will do 657 watts RMS @ 2 ohms or the 456 watts @ 4 ohms. Would I need 2 4 ohm subs to get the 2 ohm load from the amp? The subs I bought are rated up to 350 RMS each, which is why I bought this sub / amp combination....it was to the closest mono amp to matching RMS ratings I have no problem sending these back to get some that will match RMS ratings better. Is that what you would reccommend? I just don't like underdriving speakers. Im dealing with only 4 7/8" of mounting depth here, so finding a quality sub isn't easy!!!! Maybe the 102.7w infinity subs...there 4 ohm

Make it $120.00, and I'll cover the rest of the shipping charges. It looks like about $15.00 - $20.00 to ship them....but I'm just guessing on the weight.

The subs you have when the voice coils are connected in parallel will give you a 2 ohm load per sub, so when you put the two subs together in series you get a 4 ohm load like the amp says. Because when you connect loads in series you add them together to get the total load. EX:

a= 1st 2 ohm load

b= 2nd 2 ohm load

c= total load

a+b=c

So you would get a 4 ohm load in series

If you hook the subs in parallel you get a 1 ohm load. Because when you connect loads in parallel you cannot have a total load that is bigger than the smallest load in the circuit. EX:

a= 1st 2 ohm load

b= 2nd 2 ohm load

c= total load

a X b / a + b = c

So 2 X 2 = 4

and 2 + 2 = 4

So 4/4 = 1

This would give you a total 1 ohm load, which will not work with your amp.

The only way to get your amp to work the way you want it to, is to get 2 4 ohm single voice coil subs and connect them in parallel or get 2 8 ohm dual voice coil subs with the voice coils connected in parallel to give a 4 ohm load for each sub and connect the subs in parallel. This will get you the 2 ohm total load that you are tryin to acheive for the amp that you have.

So the answer to your question is yes the subs you have will not work with your amp the way you are want to use it. Yes the 102.7w will work with them in 4 ohm just connect the 2 subs in parallel and you will get the 2 ohm load that you are wantin.

These babies are pristine right? Is everything still in the box they came in? And what exactly is the model number? Pictures if possible.

So far as I'm concerned...yes they are in pristine condition. However, I have not laid eyes on them for a year since they have been behind my stock speaker grills. I do have the original boxes they came in from Crutchfield. I assure you that I try to take good care of my stuff....I will not sell you junk!!!

I don't expect you to commit to buy anything, without more information from me. Let me get them out of my truck, then I will send you some pics of the speakers, and the boxes. My new speakers and amp should be here by Friday. I will try and remove these over the weekend, and get you some pictures ASAP

The model # is S 65 RC
