I Saw It This Weekend

With the cost of fuel both gas and diesel I feared the day I saw some one who needed a big truck trying to pull a big load with a little truck!!! It did not take as long as I thought. Coming home I saw a F-150 (I know but let me finish) pulling a 24 foot 3 horse trailer, it had a full living quarters in the front. The first thing I noticed was how high the headlights were as I pulled along side of it. They could not really see the road in front of them. The rear end was all the way down on the axle stops. I passed going up hill with cruise set on 65, when we topped the hill and started down I could see if behind me swaying the head lights around and when we got about 2 more miles down the road and came to a stop light when they pulled behind me I could smell the brakes. I guess some people can put a price on there lives but what about mine????? :D

Saving a few bucks to buy less gas hardly seems worth the risk... and you know that truck isn't going to last very long doing that, either. They'll be spending tons of money on new brakes and no telling what else...

There was a guy at the body shop I go to that told me he pulled his 20' camper and Nitro boat behind his 97 SC/SB with a 305. :D

I was shocked he even tried that.

Last summer I saw a Tacoma pulling a full size 5th wheel through the mountains. His license plates were from several states away too, so i wasn't like he just had to pull it a few miles.

Some people are that ignorant to how much their vehicles can safely handle. Was that person in the F150 trying to save a buck with a "more economical" truck, or are they just stupid?

Well most likely stupid. I doubt he was sitting at home thinking "hmm should I take my 3500 diesel on this trip or take the f-150 and try and save gas".

Sadly, the diesel would have gotten better mileage anyway.

Yeah, RCSB is a no-no, but are you doubting that 305? Tough little motor.

Even a BB probably would have...

I've been seeing that already, though it is getting more common. What gets me is, that the owners grip when the axle bearings go, tubes/axles bend, or brakes and rotors are worn to crap. They're cursing up a storm on why it happend.

Kind of when you dont strap your boat to the trailer.

I forgot to say but the truck had temp tags on it so my guess would be that he traded his F-250 powersuck in on this nice little f-150 so on his way to work it would be cheaper, he might not pull that trailer very often so it will be ok.:D

Hell when I was about 9 or 10 yrs old back in the early 70s my dad use to pull a 24ft fiberglass boat cuddycabin and a twin axle trailer with his 69 Chevelle stationwagon with the 307 2 barrel and 2 speed powerglide tranny and we never had a problem.
