Few Questions About Buying A Drop-in Bedliner

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at buying a drop-in plastic bedliner for my '07 Silverado. I've been wanting to haul some busted up concrete that I need to move but I don't like to put it straight into my bed with nothing but a bed mat. I don't want this to become a drop-in vs. spray-in debate either. I want the drop in for the cheaper amount and the non-permanance of it.

I've got a few questions that maybe y'all could answer for me though.

#1 Should I buy the bedliner straight from the GM Parts & Accessories website or should I look for an aftermarket off-brand one?

#2 Do these below the rail bedliners just drop in or do the you self tapping screws? I can see along the inside of my bed where it looks like there are rivets for screws but I don't know if thats for a bedliner or cargo management systems or what.

#3 Will I lose the use of my tie-down hooks with the GM bedliner?

#4 How in the world do I get the bedliner to me? UPS wouldn't bring me a big 8'x5' box would they?

I can't think of my other questions right now but if I remember I'll post them. Thanks.

1. Buy a GM bedliner

2. They use screws. The one for my 2003 Silverado uses 2 for the box and I think 6 for the tailgate.

3. No. There are cut-outs. Also, I suggest buying these: http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/index.php...2b_pi1[type]=gm

I think you can get them in both stainless steel and black. Some of the best $50 I've ever spent. The bed tie downs can sometimes be hard to reach and these ones pop right up from the stake pockets and can hold 300 pounds.

4. You cannot order it from that website. Print your Shopping List. Then take it to your dealer and place your order through the Parts Department or your Salesperson.

I agree. Call up your GMC dealer and they will ensure that you get the right liner for your truck. The GMC liners are made from Pendaliner I believe, and they are quick thick and form fitting to the bed, plus you will have the molding for inserting a 2X6 vertical to help keep stuff from sliding around in the box.

I use my bed hard so a drop in is my choice!

I have had several brands of the under the rail variety.

Anyhoo.........If you purchase a GM bedliner be prepared to pay

more! I had a factory GM liner in my 04 gmt-800 and it held up

well and it was a $299? option IIRC.................

For my 07 gmt-900 i purchased another under the rail brand x

drop in from a local truck acc. store installed for $175.

It is held in by 3 self tapping screws per side and the tailgate

cover is held on by 4 screws.

I had them cut off the front over the bed lip so my soft

tonneau frame would lay flat and remain watertight.

It does have cut outs for the tie down hooks also.

It has held up well for over a year aNd has had its share

of heavy usage...............

Go with a Duraliner - I've had GM ones before and there is NO quality difference. In my opinion the Duraliner is better because of lower $ and NO screws. It has cut outs / plugs for the tie downs also. Just look for a local retailer and they can get it in for you. HTH

don't get a gm liner. Get any brand name drop in liner for any truck access. store. It will be half the amount and will do the same thing.

When I got my bed Line-X'd I had to pay the guy $10.00 to leave it there. It was brand new and marked GM and I was glad to get rid of it so cheap, other option was hauling it home and creating a mosquito breeding lake with it. He said he had to pay someone to haul them away. He had a stack of them there that he was getting ready to cut apart so they would get hauled away. I'll bet you could get a drop in at a Line-X dealer for free or next to nothing and they would be happy to get rid of one of them the easy way.

I have to disagree with some things said here. First, I bought an after market bedliner tailgate cover (I use rubber mat in the bed itself) and the fit was extremely poor. The piece did not fit corectly next to the factory tailgate cap, so it would have to be trimmed about 1/4 inch to fit right. And this is not something one should have to do. Also, the price of the aftermarket tail gate cover was acutally higher than that of GM genuine part. I returned the aftermarket cover, and bought the GM brand. It fit great. Of course, if you buy the entire bedliner, you'll get a better deal ont he aftermarket version. But beware of potential tailgate cover fit problems as I just described.

I do not like GM drop in bedliner design, as it requires drilling into your bed, and especially tailgate with self tapping screws. IIRC, the 2006 truck tailgate piece attaches with something like 10 self tapping screws! I avoided drilling by using 3 M tape along the edges of the tailgate cover.
