Obd Ii Scanner

Recommended Posts

I want to be able Read and Clear Trouble codes as well as log collected data. I see hand held ones like Actron, AutoXay, etc.. and I also see some are PC based with a USB cable. Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation. I know some of the performance tuner can do that but I prefer to leave my tune stock (for now anyway). I want to be able to use the scanner on more than one GM vehicle. Anyone has any recommendations they would like to share? Hand held unit or PC based... Whats good, bad, etc..etc... Thanks,

There might be better products out there, but I've had good success with Scangauge II. Doesn't require any batteries, and gives lots of great info, in particular trans fluid temp. Getting it initially set up to recognize my Silverado took some help from the very-helpful gents at Scangauge.

I'm looking at the ScangaugeII for a vehicle mounted and the Autoenginuity for a PDA or laptop based unit.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Autoenginuity with GM extension pack for laptop, while not a TECHII it's very close for a lot less monies (not including the $ of the laptop/pda of course). I already have an unused PIII-700/512MB XP laptop that this could run on and a laptop that I wouldn't worry about knocking about.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to fix the topic... It should be "OBD II Scanner"

That's a rule in place to keep people from entering all caps in the title. Not much you can do about it. Don't sweat it.

I prefer the handheld for personal use. I have a Snap-On that reads OBD 1, 2 and CAN as well as the Ford electronics and imports back to '84.

You can get it from the local tool truck guy for around $250.

i own 2. it depends on what i am using it for

i use this for checking/clearing codes. its nice because it will do OBD II and OBD I cars

when i need to datalog or figure out whats going on with something that is intermittent or not easily solved i use my HPTuners datalogging capabilities. it allows me to set, check and clear DTC's as well as let me monitor what is going on in the car.

Equus makes a scanner that is one step above the one i have, that allows you to scan and watch what is going on inside the motor. however, i just wanted something that could easily/quickly scan codes, inform me of the problem, then clear them.

That is the exact one I have. Snap-on has the Bluepoint name on it, and have been lowballing it for $250 for the last few months.

My best friend is a Snap-On dealer so I use his but Bluepoint is the way to go on a lot of gear. It's still Snap-On but a helluva lot cheaper.

I got this one awhile ago through a group buy, so I got a great deal on it. It comes with a cable and software for the PC. I got it probably 3-4 years ago and still get free software updates on the site. Also probably not the best scan tool out there, but it's always worked just fine for me.

It reads/clears codes, does data logging in real time, has a virtual dash, etc. Good stuff.

if you are going to spend some money on a scanner, you might as well spend just a little bit more and get this

HPTUNERS

not only will it scan for you, but it will allow you to custom tune your truck!!!!

That looks pretty sick.
