Yes you will have to pull the dash and then pull the 12v outlet out and seperate it and install the new cover.

You'll have to at least remove the front trim to gain access to the back of the socket and remove the collar that retains it. That little plastic cover is sandwiched between the sections on my truck.

ANOTHER option might be this. My company sled Ford Explorer has a plastic cover on the outlet that inserts from the front and is removable. It just plugs in to the socket. I've seen this on several other cars too. Perhaps getting something like that instead of tearing the dash apart would be better? Just a thought.

EDIT: Those sockets are standard size so any make should fit.

Just finished this repair on the std type dash for my new style truck.

1) The covers are PN 25793816

2) You must remove the plastic dash bezel as mentioned above by tugging until the clips release (no tools required). Take your time and pull evenly around the perimeter until it releases.

3) Disconnect all the electrical plugs and remove the panel from vehicle

4) On a table turn the panel over and release the clips....You must push the metal section out through the front of the panel. Once you have done that the covers just fall out.

The covers seem pretty ass cheap and will likely break again.

While the panel was out I did the GM Techlink mod for the left centre air vent. I had the rattle / popping/ snapping noise when the blower is on due to the air door vibrating. A few strategically placed pieces of foam tape and done. Can't find the Techlink site to provide a link. Has this site been shut down?

Thanks for mentioning the air vent issue. I heard this the other day and thought I was going crazy. I'll have to tear into it and see what I can do.
