Doesn't "Tow/Haul" mode disable OD? Wouldn't it be smart to use that for towing?

No I don't believe it does, it just goes into over drive at a higher RPM.

I was talking to my local tranny shop about tranny temps when towing, noting that mine climbs to about 195-205 degrees when going up hill, and then leveling out about 186 during steady towing, and he told me that was acceptable. I then asked about synthetic oil in the tranny and would it help. He told me that he has not been sold on the synthetic oil as he has not seen enough evidence where it should be switched from dino oil. He also recommended a oil change yearly in the tranny if towing on a regular basis. I think that when I do take it in, I will most likely switch to Mobil syn oil in there. Any thoughts?

you already have synthetic in your tranny.

I do? Sweet. Not to be rude, but how can I confirm that? How do I know for a fact that it is Syn oil in there (other then tasting it)?

And what style of tranny cooler would come in the GMT900?

Thanks.

Starting in 2006 GM went to Dextron V1 which is a simi synthetic and backwards compatable for older transmissions.

Don, how fast is your truck??

That would be hard to say. I have never timed it, but I will say it seems to be faster than the average 5.3. Ive had a couple of people kick it to the floor when I was passing them. I passed them any way. Who knows???

Unless you are in San Fransisco, I don't think we are "looking" for that "kind" of guy.

Ok, one more question.

In reference to the "Tow in 3 or D" question, you stated to run up speed enough for converter lockup. That I understand, but will the coverter lock up in 3 also, or only in D.

My question never got an answer....

Sorry for not getting to this question earlier. I would have to connect the scanner to your truck and find out if the torque converter clutch solenoid is activating in 3rd gear. You might be able to watch to see if there's an RPM drop at partial throttle, but that might be hard to detect. I tried to look it up on alldatapro and I'm not finding any good info.

About 4600 pounds all over the country.

That's not too bad, I haul 5500 pounds about 120 miles every saturday night for stock car racing.

I've had 2 failures, one at 34K and again at 80K. Both times was the Sun Shell busting apart. Both times on a 1-2 shift, one on a freeway on-ramp, second pulling out of a shopping mall. Neither time was I towing. Both times, there was a stall in forward movement then a "slam" shift into 2nd, with resulting no 2,4,R. The first repair was under warranty by dealer. The second repair I had a non-dealer repair shop use the Beast Sun Shell and the 3-4 clutch pack changed to Alto.

I do have a Wester's 91 Hot tune with the majority of TQM removed during both instances.

they must have beefed them up or something cause my 07 has TM removed , a vette servo and if your WOT and the conditions are right it'll bark the tires from 1st-2nd. Now I don't drive like a maniac but its nice to know the power is there when I need it

I don't remember how much the Beast sun shell was, like $80? Probably well worth it. How's it been since the new shell and 3-4 clutch pack?
