Bakflip G2 & Line-x Over The Rail

Anyone have this setup on there truck? The question I have a about the shims that you have to mount (tape) on the NBS trucks (2007+) that stick to the inside of the bed rails. I e-mailed bakflip (tech support and sales) and they said I shouldn't have any issues with installing the shims because they have double sided heavy duty tape.

But I wonder how well they will stick to the side rails since it's line-x (ed)? Would love to hear from anyone with this setup.

I've got the G2 but not the line-x. The shims are going to be pinched between the bed rails and the cover rails via clamps. Between this and the tape I wouldn't think you'd have any problems.

I've got plastic bed rail caps, and have the shims stuck to those. I actually fabricated up my own shims (to run along the entire length of the bed rail) and just used double sided tape. Been working like a charm for almost a year now.

You will not have any issues with the line-x. The tape is only there to hold the shims in place until the rails are clamped down.

Btw I have the bakflip hd and love it... I wanted metal instead of plastic and I also heard that the joints of the hd have been improved over those of the g2

sk1er18, I was sold on the Bak Flip HD after reading about your review on Butch's Denali sight, but then I did a quick search over here and I read all these short and sweet horror stories about the Bak Flip... Do you think maybe these people are talking about nightmares w/cracked rubber seals and leaking from the old G1 or even the G2 vs the HD you have and the one I would get...meaning I would get the HD too??? Does yours leak at all? Do you know if you can use the sliding tool box in the Cargo Management racks w/the HD installed? I know you have the cargo racks, but I didn't see you with anything actually in them?

I guess I'll throw out my 2 cents on the Bakflip G2 (NOT the HD). I'm perfectly happy with mine and don't have problems with it leaking. I've had it now for probably a year and a half. Important to note that my truck is my "second vehicle" and not my daily driver, so I'm not opening and closing the cover every day (mostly just on the weekends). I could see if the cover saw regular heavy use that it would probably deteriorate sooner than you'd want (i.e. seals cracking, ...). That being said, in my case it has taken the four seasons of Michigan pretty well.

I do occasionally get up and walk around on the cover when tying my kayak down, supports my 155 lb frame fine. If I were any heavier I might think twice about standing on it. I would not put anything of significant weight up on the cover for an extended period of time, even though that is one of the manufacture's selling points.

So, if you plan on beating the s*it out of a bed cover don't get the G2. If not I don't see a reason why it couldn't be considered among others.

the bakflip G1's were very problematic; joints coming apart, panels warping/shrinking, etc. The bakflip G2 resolved those issues and is supposed to be a much better cover. The bakflip HD is a stronger/metal version of the G2. It's lighter weight but able to support more of a load, the joints were supposedly updated again to make them stronger and more weather sealable.

I have not had any problems with water leaking into my bed at all. Only problem i had once was that my tailgate wouldnt open because the rubber sealing strip was frozen to it after an ice storm... but it only took me about 30 seconds to peel up a corner and run my thumb down the length of it to free everything up.

There's plenty of clearance, as long as the tool box does not protrude higher than the bed rails i dont see any reason why you couldnt use it in conjunction with the cover....

I had a Bakflip G2 cover on my Ranger before it met the median on the high way. I used the shims and did NOT stick them at all. I just put them between and they stayed there without issue. Made the uninstall very easy too when I took it off the truck in the wreck yard, thankfully the damage to it was only a broken plastic clip that holds the prop-up bars.
