You might have had a tad more luck pulling it out from the rear of your truck. If the Toy's anchor point was lower than your hitch, then it would have pulled the rear tires of your truck down, giving them more traction. Success, who knows. But... with the way it looked the tension of the strap was pulling the nose of your truck down, creating more drag on the front tires and lifting the rear slightly up.

Of course my humble opinion to a situation which I am not familiar with the circumstances.

Thats exactly why I will always have four wheel drive in my trucks or SUVs.

I do use mine on the GMC a lot because I ride my dirtbike and the riding spots are hard to get OUT of with 2wd.

The expedition I got my mother is also a 4x4 and she has used it a few times where she and my dad were glad they had it.

You just never now how glad you are to have it until you do end up needing it.

Plus these Auto 4x4 transfer cases in half ton trucks and SUVs is a real treat to have in rainy weather.(No fish tailin')

Well this is the first time I have needed 4X4 in 17 years so not so bad. I am not real big on 4X4s I am a street kind of guy..

That is good and all but I wasn't trying to say everyone should have 4x4.

Simple truth is that most people don't need a 4X4...because people that do have it are always around to save their a$$es :):)

You could lower a 4x4, best of both worlds... :)

I'm just busting your balls.

That’s exactly why I went back into debt with my new truck, a 4x4. My old truck was like the Toyota. We were up in Utah visiting family and went to Sandy Beach (key word Sandy). We launched a pair of skis and I let my wife drive my 02 (2WD) truck to a spot on the beach. Mind you my truck was lifted and running ’35 tires with a quad in my truck bed.

It was buried up to the doors, rear axle was hidden in the sand. I had to ask a Ford to pull me out. I vowed never again, I was so embarrassed. Now I’ll be the one pulling people out.

I’ve heard you never want to pull people out in reverse. Because the reverse gear is smaller then the rest. Just an FYI.
