First off, I am still kinda new to this site so sorry if this has ben posted in a previous thread...

Any advice on the does/don'ts to debadging?

I have an 08 Silverado and am looking to pull the badges (Silverado on both front quarter panels, Silverado, LS & Bowtie on tailgate) From what I have read there are no "tits" securing the badges to the body (a plus). I am just looking for the easiest and safest way to remove them with out damaging the paint. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just use patience and some fishing line.

Run the fishing line behind the badges and saw back and forth. They'll pop right off.

It works a lot better if everything is warm, so using a heat gun or a hair dryer helps a lot.

There will also be a residue from the adhesive tape used to secure them on, you can get most of this off by just working it with your thumb...GooGone helps some in this dept.

^What he said, just be careful you don't get it too hot with a heat gun, you could bubble the paint. Seeing as you're in Hawaii, you could probably just park it in the sun for a couple hours, and it'll soften it up a bit. :D

yupp i did it with a heat gun and dential floss and they came off, the only pain that ass was the glue but i heated it up to and peeled it off then waxed it after and its like they were never there :D

Ok... figured I would start small on my lunch break and take the LS off of the tailgate. I bought some dental floss and "goo-gone" from the local BX. The floss "sawed" right through the adhesive backing however when I got to the chore of removing the leftovers it was a little more time consuming. I didn't rub it w/ my thumb but went straight to using the goo-gone. A micro fiber, my wife's finger nails, and about 30 minutes later it was gone. I dowsed it w/ some water/soap, dryed it and put a couple of coats of wax on it and it looks great.

Not looking forward to the Silverado lettering and especially the large bowtie in the middle of the tailgate. If I rub it before adding the goo gone the bulk comes off a little easier?

One more thing, I am kinda OCD about my truck... the goo-gone wont hurth the paint will it? I can imagine it will be on the paint for a good amount of time while I am trying to remove that bowtie.

Thanks again for all the help/advice.

In my experience (and I've pulled every sticky thing possible off my truck :D), it's a LOT easier to rub the left-over tape when it's dry. It'll just roll off in little balls.

And I don't have any personal experience with it, but I don't believe the goo-gone will do any kind of damage. :D

Ok, the adhesive used on my tailgate bowtie must have been mixed by some kind of over achiever  . The bowtie came off fine however, the "goo" did not. I spent the better part of two hours rubbing off the think part and began to work on the smeared remainder with a microfiber cloth I soaked "goo-gone." After about two cycles of rub w/ gg, wash, wax, the smudges just seam spread around the local area. I think I will give the 3M adhesive remover a shot in the morning. Bit to dark tonight to do anything else. Thanks again for the continued advice.

We had about 8 flowers on my trucks hood for a wedding and when we took the flowers off, there was shit loads of tape residue left on the hood. We basically used the whole freakin bottle of goo-gone on the hood. Soak the area with some and leave it on there for about 5 minutes and make sure you park in the shade. Keep repeating this and it should come off!
