Parking Brake

I always thought the parking brake went to floor too EASILY ..... today I actually checked it as I was sitting on a hill, and truck didn't hold ANY with parking brake pedal fully depressed .....

 

Is something disconnected, broken ????

Most likely nothing is disconnected or broken.

 

If you use your parking brake a lot, the parking brake cable will stretch. There is an adjustment on the cable to compensate for the stretch. I do not know exactly where it is on this truck, but somebody else will hopefully chime in with that info.

Look at the drivers side frame rail sort of in the middle of the cab, and you should see a bracket where the one cable splits into two. That's where you do the adjusting (it's pretty self explanatory once you see it).

Mine does the same thing, but I don't ever use it, so I haven't worried about it, Maybe i'll have to take a look at it next time I'm under there

I would say your parking brake shoes are shot. When I had my '02 I never once used my parking brake, but when I changed my pads and rotors, I noticed my parking brake shoes were worn down to nothing. Common problem for those trucks.

My dad complains about the opposite problem. His parking brake pedal is hard to push down, and still doesn't hold. In my buddy's truck (2006 1500hd ccrb) the pedal goes smoothly to the floor, and the truck wont budge. I don't get it.

Some have drums, some have discs - parking brake setup is different on each.

 

Whatever you do, make sure the parking brake cable system is properly lubricated and actuates properly. I redid the brakes on my 93, then used the parking brake which I hadn't used for a whole winter. It stuck on and I was smelling brakes within 10 miles.
