Dual Exhaust Question

I like the look and benefits dual exhaust provides, but I have a couple questions.

#1 Do you get that much benefit on MPG and/or HP when you don't have true dual exhaust?

#2 Is there a dual exhuast kit that isn't so loud. I got a new 08 GMC Sierra last week and I really enjoy the quiteness of the OEM exhuast. However I like the looks of dual exhaust. I would like to get both if possible.

Thank you.

If you like the quietness of the stock exhaust, I would stay with the stock exhaust. You will not get that much more HP or MPG out of dual exhuast. Is there some power to be had? Yes (probably less than 10hp at WOT),but on a stock motor the factory exhaust breaths fine.

If you like the look of duals, take it to an exhaust shop and have the run a Y pipe behind your muffler and out the back. Or buy a cat back system with dual exits.

The big thing you have to look out for with these new body style trucks with AFM, is the nasty drone they can have with the wrong exhuast system. Some people like it, but if you like your quiet exhaust, I don't think you will.

Do a search! There are a milliion exhuast threads on here and videos on YouTube.

Looks like you live in a pretty nice area. Why not make you truck loud enough to set off car alarms? I'd go with the Flowmaster Super 44's. Or just straight pipe it off the motor. Orrr if you like your neighbors, you can check out Flowmaster 50 or 70 series mufflers. From what i can hear they have a low rumble, but not loud enough to bug ya.

My truck always sets off alarms everywhere, the flowmaster 40 series muffler sounds good on a 6.0. Not loud enough for me though, I'm thinking off adding some long tube headers. If you like your truck being quiet I suggest u stick with the stock muffler. It's amazing how quiet these trucks are with the stock muffler.

adding headers may not necessarily make your truck louder, it will definitely make your exhaust sound more "cleaner" though....if you want loud i suggest you drive on down to placentia to The Muffler Man (ocmufflerman.com) and get his custom muffler, it is VERY LOUD...it is a straight through design and he only charged me $240 for a full catback exhaust with his muffler, it sounds amazing....if your ever coming down near brea or any cities within 10 miles of brea, let me know ill let you hear it....i have an 05 5.3 so just imagine how good it will sound with your 6.0 :)

Like most of these guys have said already if you like quite stick with the stock system, but most aftermarket exhaust system will make a little noise, Flowmaster and most other manufacturer have a line that are not very aggressive and loud.

And congrats on the new ride.

Kurt, these links from Grumpy Aero Guy may help you (he went from a Flowmaster 50 Series SUV to a 70 Series Big Block II)...
