Muffler/exhaust Options

I've been thinking about put a more aggressive sounding exhaust on my 07 Silverado. I personally think the stock exhaust sounds pretty good but I'm looking for something louder. I've done about an hour and a half of searching and found lots of information but I've got a few questions though.

When people modify their exhaust do they typically swap everything out or do they just get an aftermarket muffler and keep stock pipes? I was looking at just swapping the muffler but if it won't make a big difference I'll look another route.

Can all exhaust work be done by someone with basic knowledge or should it be done in a shop?

Is there any effect to a factory warranty?

I'm looking for a good, loud exhaust while at the same time getting the slight mileage gain. I like the crackle, popping noise and I don't mind a little interior cab noise but nothing that is going to make you have to yell if you're talking to someone  . I was thinking a Flowmaster Super 40 muffler would be a good choice. That is if there will be a noticeable difference with just that muffler and stock pipes.

What do yall think?

You will notice a huge difference with just the swap. That's what I have. I would go with either a Dynomax Super FLO or a Magnaflow 14" or 18" (the 14" will be the loudest of thes options) you will have a good sound and not the expense of a full system.

I replaced mine with a 18" Magnaflow. It's louder, but not crazy loud. I like mine. I see no ill effects of just swapping the muffler if your truck is bone stock for the most part.

That's what I was hoping to hear. Are the pipes welded to the muffler or are they just bolted on?

It's all welded. If you are handy with a welder, it is a fairly easy job. But if not, I would consult a local muffler shop. They should charge much at all to weld it in for you.

If you are wanting loud and kackle, I think you are on the right track with the flowmaster. I would stick to one of their 40 series mufflers. Either something like the delta flow 40 or the super 44. Both have great sound. I have the Deltal flow on my truck and I have the 44's on my nova.

With any of the mufflers, I would really only buy it for sound and maybe a little power. Don't count on much mpg.

Give us sound clips when its done.

Sounds like you would like a Dynomax Bullet.

I went with the Super 40 and love it! Problem with the idea of a gas mileage gain is....youll want to hear your exhaust more and put your foot into it.

Well the mileage gain isn't that big of a deal to me really. I'm mainly looking for sound as I can't do much worse with mileage.

How's your Super 40's interior noise?

If I'm looking to order online do I just buy the muffler that matches the specs of the stock one? I just match up in/out diameter, in/out position ( center, offset, etc.)? I really like the sound of Flowmaster's 40 series. Here's a link http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/40_orig.html. I'm looking to keep stock pipes and just swap the muffler so no dual exhaust.

I guess I'll try to take measurements tomorrow.

Can the mufflers be reversed and still perform the same? For example, the muffler I'm eyeing up is the one here at this link. Our GMT900's stock mufflers go from center in to offset out. This muffler is pictured as offset in to center out. So if I simply rotated it 90 degrees the positions would line up but would it still perform correctly or not?

NO. Some mufflers can be reversed, but flowmasters are directional.

If there aren't any with the correct positions in the Standard 40 series that might just be reason enough to try out the new Super 44 Off-Road. Anyone heard of or had experience with it yet?

Thunderstruck.....anything wrong with Flowmasters on trucks or are you just promoting your Dynomax Bullet? I understand everyone is partial to a certain brand. There have been 4 or so brands recommended and I've been searching the web for clips and I can't find too much of a difference in them.
