If you live in a small town, see if the police or fire department would be willing to help. I've called upon the local police in my town in the past and they've been more than happy to pop a lock for me, and did so with a smile. Worth a shot, if you are in a small town. Otherwise, check with a local auto parts store and see if they will sell or rent a slim jim to pull the lock open. Otherwise, call a locksmith ($$$).

Do you have AAA?

I have watched and they use some sort of pump/baloon at edge of window. Then a hook to grasp door handle.

The older cars one could use a 'slim jim'. Don't know if that works for newer vehicles.

I used to keep an extra key hidden someplace on exterior of vehilce. Haven't done that yet on my 2008 GMC as I have OnStar.

I keep a spare ingition key inside vehilce. For around two bucks one can have a key made to just unlock door and keep that one outside.

The extra ignition key as I recall was a bit pricey.

Do you think it is the wrong lock in the door or something wrong with the lock itself?

Obviously the door lock should match the ignition lock, which you know the key works for. If the wrong door lock was put in the door than I would think the dealer/GM would be of some help even if it is out of warranty.

If you haven't used the keys in the locks in all this time, the locks could be corroded. Try some penetrating oil in a lock and then turn the key back and forth for a while. It's worth a try.

Did you see all the mud on his truck. I would say you got a good chance of the lock just being stuck , spray the hell out of it. Work the key back and forth.
