Gmc Trans Temp Gauge

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 and the cluster does not have the trans temp gauge but i would like one in the cluster. My question is can i just add the gauge to my existing cluster (stock cluster) and are all the temp sensors and wiring in the truck already and it just needs a gauge to display the info.

I think the wiring is already there to be honest with you and when my speedo went out awhile back i looked at silverado ss gauges and those had the tranny temp on them. So you could get that but they are spendy. Just an option for you.

the wiring is there but is the sensor there?

If you add a cluster with a temp gage its plug and play. The only thing is you have to get the mileage programmed in the new cluster. Mileage in full size trucks is only kept in the cluster.

Have a good one,

Do i have to get the mileage programed? I'm not looking to do any odometer fraud as i plan on being the last owner of this truck.

No you don't have to but if you ever got rid of it there might be a problem.

I bought a new 2500 cluster with temp gage with no miles for my 05 1500. I had the miles added. Works great.

You will need to get at least an 03 as they changed in 03. People say 04 and 05 work but I would try to stay in the same model year. It only takes all of 15 to 20 minutes to change one out.

Is there any way to get a 2500 HD cluster from a wrecked truck, removing the transmission temp gauge from it and add it to you existing cluster? This way there would be no mileage programming required and you could get the cluster cheap. Is the gauge attached with small screws or glued in? Is it possible to remove it at all without damaging it?

I have a 2005 Silverado SS Cluster for sale ($225 + shipping) if anyone is interested.

Erik,

I considered this as well and after much research, I took the route of the Interceptor Scan Gauge by Aeroforce. I mounted mine in a gauge pod on my A pillar and it simply plugs into your OBD port under your dash. It will read appros 28 functions from your PCM.

See Their website

Also, here is a pic of mine installed.

I 2nd what C&A said....I had one of those gauges in my '02 YukonXL and it's fantastic.

Sold it to my buddy and he has it in his '01 Silverado and thinks it's great.

Either the Interceptor like posted above or a bit cheaper route....the ScanGuageII

I have one of these mounted on my center console. They also make above mirror mounts for it or it can even be mounted to the top of steering column with velcro. It will display 4 gauges (out of a possible 37) at once and can also show trip/milage info and show/clear OBDII engine trouble codes. The backlight can be selected from 7 standard colors or customized with 63 possible colors also.

You might check out some of the clusters for sale on ebay. You send in your cluster, they convert it for you (to escalade, ss, denali, etc - or just upgrade it with a temp gauge), that way they retain your mileage. Granted you are without your cluster for 5 days, so you wouldn't be able to drive it during that time so the mileage isn't off.

Just another suggestion.

Hey guys, I'm looking at a gauge cluster as well. My speedometer though is a 100mph max. If I get a 120mph max speedometer with a new cluster will the speed be off or will it read accurately with just more range? Also, will it make my truck go faster?? :D
