Yeah I heard that on the news. We already have high gas taxes here in WI, so why not pile on more :lol:

Wouldn't all these damn gas taxes eventually end up being like a "sin tax" and encourage people to NOT buy gas and NOT drive as much..?? Seems kinda counter-productive. "Revenues are down, because people aren't driving as much.. Let's raise the tax ("on driving"), to make some of that revenue back!" Nevermind the fact that the more expensive it is to drive, the less "optional" driving people will be doing...?

I think it's BS, but, I do understand needing fund's to repair the highway's.

I stopped and got gas yesterday, and it look's like the station's are going back to raising their price's for the weekend. It has been $1.65 around here, and I paid $1.89 for it yesterday. That, alone, is a bunch of shit. :lol:

People drive less because of the fuel prices. So making the prices worse makes people drive less thus less revenue coming.

 

What the hell have these guys been smoking? Ain't the good weed, and ain't even the crappy brake fluid. What ever it is, it made them retarded.

Less driving means less wear and tear on roads and bridges, thus less expense in maintaining them. We are talking about federal highways only, there are far more state highway and local roads. This is a veiled attempt at carbon tax. It is behavior modification and is timed to slip in when fuel prices are low. I'd like to know what the makeup of that panel is. I bet the majority are environMENTALists.

 

Poor economy mean less activity and less transportation of goods. Our worst enemy could not pick a policy that would harm the US at this time than raising taxes of any kind when this country can afford it the least. Boy, this will really spur the economy! Everyone is sucking it in right now, so can the government.

 

All this for the CO2 bogey man.

This may have already been stated, but if the Feds pass a tax hike, the states will want to pass one too. I heard an audio file the other day where former NBC anchor, Tom Brokaw was saying he thought a tax should be imposed to raise the price back to $4 per gallon.

In Georgia, Jan 1 brought in a 4cent reduction in the state fuel taxes. Georgia's gas taxes are reviewed and adjusted every 6 mos. Lower fuel prices generally reduce the tax to keep the price/tax ratio relatively constant. Georgia's tax is 14.6 cents/gal for gasoline.
