So today I get up and have to take my mom to school since she had surgery on her foot and can't drive. Its no big deal, I don't go back to school til next monday so I told her I would take her. I start the truck up, get it all nice and warm, and we pulled out down the highway to here school which is about 12 miles away from where we live. About half way there I was doin 60mph and the truck just downshifted and was running about the rev-limited mark. I had to finish the rest of the way there goin 35 mph and then going back home doin that. I kept having to pull off the highway to let others get by me so they could get their kids to school. I only had 1-3 gears, now I have none. So I have to wait and see if I can replace the range switch in my driveway or get it towed back to the dealer to have them put it in. :dunno: off now, Thanks for listening.

That sucks Cam, hopefully you get it figured out, if it is exactly what you think it is.

Props to you for that. Not many people nowdays would even consider that they might be inconveniencing other people on the road.

Hope you get the issue solved easily.

Well I have had it go bad and act the same way before, just never make the trans inoperable. I guess thats my fault for thinking it would fix itself again.

Yea, it was 7:45 and I knew they were wanting to get their kids to school, and I was not pushing it more than 40mph. Good news is I was getting like 25 mpg. :D

Sounds like you limp moded the transmission. Still, that sucks man, hope you can get it fixed soon.

No, if I limp moded it, the display would say that. Its the shift position switch that interprets what gear the selector is in. It's what actually controls the shifting of the trans, the pressures, and obviously the input.

Well for now I am waiting to see what Rich says about the part. I am not sure if I can do it in my driveway or I have to have it done at a dealer. Plus I have the Ave to drive this week so I just need to get it fixed by Sunday.

I hate driving the Ave, except for the price of fuel. So there is a Allison dealer in Springfield that will sell me an "updated" switch that is now tan instead of black. My gf is gonna pick it up Wednesday and bring it back for me on Thursday. Price is $80.49, not too bad considering that GM wants $116.xx and thats not including shipping. The closest on the internet is $113 with shipping. I have heard others that said it takes like 20 to 45 minutes with simple hand tools. If anyone has instructions for me for this switch that would be great.

Well I got the part in today about 5ish. Took me about 45 minutes to get it replaced. They glue the plugs in with something. Thats what took so long. Shifting great and glad to have my truck back. Although I have one question. It has a vent port now. Can anyone take a picture of what the tan updated switch looks like on their truck to see what to do with the vent?
